How do I update products using a file upload with ftp

The previous person responsible for my company's web site maintenance would create an excel file with the product information and then upload the file using the ftp client.

 

I need to know how to set up the excel file.

 

Any suggestions?

There is a contribution called easypopulate which might already be installed on your site if the previous admin was already uploading excel files. To check if it is already installed, you would have a link such as: Admin-->Catalog-->Easy Populate.

 

Easypopulate is a very useful and mature contribution for doing exactly what you asked. Here is the contribution URL: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/500

 

I'm sure there are several other modules available in the contribution/add-ons as well.
