Retaining Session ID Between Sites (HTML & Oscommerce)

I inherited responsibility for an oscommerce site that is basically two sites. An HTML site (wrapped in PHP) and an Oscommerce site.

 

The client wants to be able to have the product descriptions on the HTML site so they have more flexibility regarding content. The problem is that when the user switches between sites the session ID is lost. Is there a way to store the session ID so the user can switch between the HTML site and the Oscommerce site while retaining the session ID?

 

P.S. I don't have much PHP experience so I am out of my depth.
