Azure Moon Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Hi Everyone! For the past month or so I have been getting odd things showing up in the Last URL section of the Who's Online, such as: product_info.php?products_id=http://funhiman.eclub/lv/images? IP Address of 76.71.4.196 This is just one example, but when I trace these IP's, they are coming from Sympatico in Canada - and from what I can determine, Sympatico is affliated with MSN. I've been using my cPanel IP Deny manager and blocking such addresses, but now I'm wondering if this is some kind of spider or bot and I shouldn't be blocking them, or is this some weirdo trying to hack into my site. Should I be worried, or just continue to be irritated by them and block them? Any help and/or insight will be greatly appreciated. FIMBLE Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 if it is it should say, if you google the IP number it should come up with some info, or try http://www.showmyip.com/ they are pretty good at giving you an idea. I have an IP trap in use, it blocks automatically ip bots that try to get into a Trap folder. Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions

I have an IP trap in use, it blocks automatically ip bots that try to get into a Trap folder. Hi Fimble, Thank you so much for the tip :-) I Googled the IP number and it comes up with my original post, so much for that idea. I used www.showmyip.com and it really didn't say much, so I've just been blocking these weird IP addresses but am getting tired of doing that every time one shows up in my Who's Online. I'd like to learn more about the IP trap you use, but I'm a relative newbie and pretty computer illiterate - is there a contribution for the IP trap, hopefully one that is easy to install? I didn't find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Brightest Blessings, Azure Moon aka Dawn Owner, Azure Moon Jewelry And Gifts www.azuremoonjewelry.com

frobley Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 these are automated attempts to reveal potential holes -> safe mode off?, register_globals? etc it should be to your host to protect against these kind of things IPs are always changing/global, don't bother blocking manually... don't worry too much - try to keep your scripts up to date and use a trusted host
