Lost Order Notification - Help!

I have an osCommerce store, that when a payment was made in PayPal, I would receive a notice from PayPal and another one from my website with all the products purchased.

About a week ago, I continued to get the PayPal notice but NOT the website order details. I asked the first person to go into their shopping cart and make sure that the order was not sitting there. They said it wasn't so, the customer gave me the product details for the order. I understand from all the order since then, that the order actually disappears after they go to PayPal to pay.

Now it is continuing to happen order after order. We have been unable to figure out what changed and how to change it back. We figured the web designer (who is not happy with a decision I made in changing the website/company) had changed something in the c-panel.

Does anyone have an idea where we can look?

It may just be an email problem.

Have you checked to see if you can send email to a customer from the admin side of the website or if the "Contact Us" page is working on the front side of the website is working?

The PayPal email originates from PayPal's servers; the order notifications are generated by the website when it receives notification of payment from PayPal.

Hi Ben,

We have narrowed it down to the shopping cart. The customer adds the products to their shopping cart and then clicks "checkout". They select PayPal for payment and are taken to the PayPal website. That part is fine but when they complete the process, they are returned to my merchant site but the shopping cart is empty. Customer closes their browser and that is the end of the customer experience.

It use to return them to the shopping cart and that could conclude the order. At that time, I would receive an email with the order details. Now I receive nothing and there is nothing in the order history report.

Any ideas?

You may want to set up a sandbox account with paypal and switch from live to test/sandbox in your payment module.

Test your paypal module when you have the least traffic in your site.

Remember your paypal settings before you switch from live to sandbox.

Backing up is a good idea too.

Pam,

Are you using the standard PayPal module or are you using the PayPal IPN contribution?
