Turning Off Change of Order Status Emails to Customers?

My osCommerce version is 2.2-MS2.

 

How do I turn off the option to email customers whenever their Order Status changes? I want customers to still receive all other store emails (Order Confirmation, etc.)--I just don't want to send out emails upon the order status change.

 

If the above isn't possible, what's the best way to temporarily disable all store emails (& prevent them from even being generated in the first place)? I ask b/c I am planning to do mass updates of order status in the database and don't want past and present customers to receive emails during these changes.

there is a check box you can uncheck to notify the customers when you update their order. you see it when you click on orders in Admin
