Catagories without product but with subcategories

I have several categories that do not have products directly under the category name, but which do have subcategories under the category name, that is showing the "New Products for April" box.

 

My categories that do have products directly under the category name that also have subcategories under the category name does not show the "New Products for April" box.

 

Does anyone know how I would get rid of the "New Products for April" box under the categories that don't have products directly under the category name, but do have subcategories?
