Problems with the Graphs directory

When i leave the Graphs directory in chmod 755 i get, when trying to acces the Graphs directory from the admin/tools page, the error-message:

Graphs directory is not writable.

It displayes the Graphs, including the history from previous days, so it seems to be writeable anyway. But, why then this error message?

When i chmod the Graphs directory to 777 i don't get that error message anymore, but now it doesn't display anything anymore. No graphs, no nothing, just a completely empty "frame" where in the other case i at least could see the generated Graph(s)

What is causing this, is this a real error, something wrong with my installation, or what? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Ok - I am stupid. I found it. For others, it is referring to Banners dir in Images directory and not Graphs dir. Chmodd Banners and all is well.
