I'm done, unless someone wants to install this thing for me, I'm going to find something else.

errors, and can't get the thing to work with shared ssl..

What are the errors? (Assuming you're installing a 2.2 snapshot).

Shared SSL problems should have nothing to do with OSCommerce. I would suspect you would have the same problems with a static HTML site.

Post your errors and let's see what we can do.

I've just reinstalled using the 12-17-2002 snapshot, and I'm stumped.

I had everything working but for the https (login, create account, and checkout) On the advice of my sucky host, I re-uploaded and installed everything again with an added php.ini file within my cgi directory that would refer https to an http folder for parsing.(?) (WTF?)

Needless to say, I'm no getting the above errors, and am just about bald for ripping out hair.

Ok, One problem at a time:

Warning: fopen("/u/htdocs/w-n-jb/store/catalog/admin/includes/configure.php","w") - No such file or directory in /u/htdocs/w-n-jb/store/catalog/install/templates/pages/install_5.php on line 164

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /u/htdocs/w-n-jb/store/catalog/install/templates/pages/install_5.php on line 166

Did you verify that you have supplied the correct path to the the configure.php file in the installation routine? The error says it is trying to open /u/htdocs/w-n-jb/store/catalog/admin/includes/configure.php. It looks as if you have not correctly specified the path to the admin directory.

The errors on line 165 and 166 will go away once you get the error on line 164 squared away.

Did you use the install script or did you do a manual install? I find it's easier to do the manual install.

If you want, I'll install it for you. Let me know.

I know what you mean...... I've been having the below mentioned problems for a while myself now too...... and it seems that there's no one here who knows the answers to my questions.....

so if you find any porgrams that will work in either php or perl would you please be so kind as to let me know..... couse unless there's a way I can get a hand with this program I don't know that I'll be able to solve the problems I've been having with it and I can't really afford to spend a whole lot more time with it.....

here's a list of the problems I've been having..... I too am running

php 4.2.3

and

MySql 3.23.49 on my server...... this is what I've been able to track it down to so far.... if you've got any ideas I could sure use the help

What gets me most, is I've re-installed several times and NOT gotten that message, but not been able to refer to https...

just for laughs, I'll delete the directory, and re-upload and try the install once again, just to see what errors if any I recieve.

well damn, that was it..the path to the admin section...duhh

the installer defaults to catalog/admin/ , adn I placed in a different directory! (for security)

now on to de-gremlinise!!

OSC needs a place to temporally store sessions. It will go to a /tmp dir by default, or you can specify it be stored in mySQL. In configure.php there is a line you can change to store sessions in mySQL. You might try and create a /tmp dir in your root dir and chmod to 777 and if the error goes away your fixed. If not you may try and store them in mySQL. I may be way off base, but it is worth a try.

These error messages are a clear sign of an incorrect PHP setup.

Contact whoever is responsible and let them correct this. It is not osCommerce related, it's a PHP setup issue.

Oh, by the way. PHP will by default look for the /tmp dir in the servers root dir, not your root dir. If your provider has safe mode enabled PHP won't be allowed to look outside your dir. Which is where the error is comming from.

Okay, I asked the host for help, and this is what I got as a response...

Based on the file paths appearing in your error messages, it appears

your script is trying to access directories that are not made

available on our servers. It may be possible to create a "tmp" folder

in your root directory and modify the script to look there, but we

are unable to troubleshoot this third-party script.

If we can be of further assistance please let us know.

Anyone able to give me direction?

BTW; I have everything else working, or it seems to be anyway.

Posted

OK, try this:

Create a /tmp dir in your root dir. chmod to 777

Go into admin and go to configuration -> cache and put your servers full path to your /tmp dir. If you don't know your full path go to server info in tools and find open_basedir in the PHP list. Copy and paste the dir path to the cache dir, be sure to add the /tmp dir to the end.

I've had similar problems with the cache and this seemed to fix most and a tweek by my provider fix the rest.

Does the user account that your apache server runs under have read/write access to the /var/tmp directory on your server?

Posted

No, it is restricted to my own root dir, becuase of PHP safe mode. Which doesn't allow access to any dir outside of my own root dir. OSC is trying to access the /tmp outside your own root dir this is where these errors are comming from.

Hi,

Most of the errors being reported are path errors or phi.ini config parameters. Has the phi.ini file been posted? If not, please do so. Also, check if this directive is listed: allow_url_fopen=On

Keep working at it.

Hi.....

What part of the php file do you need to take a look at? couse it's a pretty big file and there's alot in it....

I would really like to get this working... and I've come to suspect that it is the php settings and not the program itself.... but I don't know what I have to change to get it all to work properly with regards to the errors I'd been having....

(to save time I'll post the whole file here..... )

[PHP]

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; About this file;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;
; This is the recommended, PHP 4-style version of the php.ini-dist file.  It
; sets some non standard settings, that make PHP more efficient, more secure,
; and encourage cleaner coding.
; The price is that with these settings, PHP may be incompatible with some
; applications, and sometimes, more difficult to develop with.  Using this
; file is warmly recommended for production sites.  As all of the changes from
; the standard settings are thoroughly documented, you can go over each one,
; and decide whether you want to use it or not.
;
; For general information about the php.ini file, please consult the php.ini-dist
; file, included in your PHP distribution.
;
; This file is different from the php.ini-dist file in the fact that it features
; different values for several directives, in order to improve performance, while
; possibly breaking compatibility with the standard out-of-the-box behavior of
; PHP 3.  Please make sure you read what's different, and modify your scripts
; accordingly, if you decide to use this file instead.
;
; - register_globals = on         [Security, Performance]
;     Global variables are no longer registered for input data (POST, GET, cookies,
;     environment and other server variables).  Instead of using $foo, you must use
;     you can use $_REQUEST["foo"] (includes any variable that arrives through the
;     request, namely, POST, GET and cookie variables), or use one of the specific
;     $_GET["foo"], $_POST["foo"], $_COOKIE["foo"] or $_FILES["foo"], depending
;     on where the input originates.  Also, you can look at the
;     import_request_variables() function.
;     Note that register_globals is going to be depracated (i.e., turned off by
;     default) in the next version of PHP, because it often leads to security bugs.
;     Read http://php.net/manual/en/security.registerglobals.php for further
;     information.
; - display_errors = Off           [Security]
;     With this directive set to off, errors that occur during the execution of
;     scripts will no longer be displayed as a part of the script output, and thus,
;     will no longer be exposed to remote users.  With some errors, the error message
;     content may expose information about your script, web server, or database
;     server that may be exploitable for hacking.  Production sites should have this
;     directive set to off.
; - log_errors = On                [Security]
;     This directive complements the above one.  Any errors that occur during the
;     execution of your script will be logged (typically, to your server's error log,
;     but can be configured in several ways).  Along with setting display_errors to off,
;     this setup gives you the ability to fully understand what may have gone wrong,
;     without exposing any sensitive information to remote users.
; - output_buffering = 4096        [Performance]
;     Set a 4KB output buffer.  Enabling output buffering typically results in less
;     writes, and sometimes less packets sent on the wire, which can often lead to
;     better performance.  The gain this directive actually yields greatly depends
;     on which Web server you're working with, and what kind of scripts you're using.
; - register_argc_argv = Off       [Performance]
;     Disables registration of the somewhat redundant $argv and $argc global
;     variables.
; - magic_quotes_gpc = Off         [Performance]
;     Input data is no longer escaped with slashes so that it can be sent into
;     SQL databases without further manipulation.  Instead, you should use the
;     function addslashes() on each input element you wish to send to a database.
; - variables_order = "GPCS"       [Performance]
;     The environment variables are not hashed into the $HTTP_ENV_VARS[].  To access
;     environment variables, you can use getenv() instead.
; - error_reporting = E_ALL        [Code Cleanliness, Security(?)]
;     By default, PHP surpresses errors of type E_NOTICE.  These error messages
;     are emitted for non-critical errors, but that could be a symptom of a bigger
;     problem.  Most notably, this will cause error messages about the use
;     of uninitialized variables to be displayed.
; - allow_call_time_pass_reference = Off     [Code cleanliness]
;     It's not possible to decide to force a variable to be passed by reference
;     when calling a function.  The PHP 4 style to do this is by making the
;     function require the relevant argument by reference.

; Output buffering allows you to send header lines (including cookies) even
; after you send body content, at the price of slowing PHP's output layer a
; bit.  You can enable output buffering during runtime by calling the output
; buffering functions.  You can also enable output buffering for all files by
; setting this directive to On.  If you wish to limit the size of the buffer
; to a certain size - you can use a maximum number of bytes instead of 'On', as
; a value for this directive (e.g., output_buffering=4096).

output_buffering = 4096

; You can redirect all of the output of your scripts to a function.  For
; example, if you set output_handler to "ob_gzhandler", output will be
; transparently compressed for browsers that support gzip or deflate encoding.
; Setting an output handler automatically turns on output buffering.

; and every HTML block.  Turning this option on has serious performance
; implications and is generally recommended for debugging purposes only.

implicit_flush = Off

; Whether to enable the ability to force arguments to be passed by reference
; at function call time.  This method is deprecated and is likely to be
; unsupported in future versions of PHP/Zend.  The encouraged method of
; specifying which arguments should be passed by reference is in the function
; declaration.  You're encouraged to try and turn this option Off and make
; sure your scripts work properly with it in order to ensure they will work
; with future versions of the language (you will receive a warning each time

Regretfully, I'm just getting around to looking at this post. My apologies. I'll take a look and reply ASAIC.

Myrrdin,

I've reviewed your php.ini file. Most of what's in it is commented out. I have placed the barebones of your file below. I would recommend saving your current file, renaming it php.original.ini. Then, cut and paste the text below into your text editor and name it php.ini. Also, for readability and performance, delete the database directives currently listed in your file that you're not using, especially the ones you do not plan to use. It will make it easier for you manage PHP on your system. The php.ini is the essential interface between your OS and the php scripting engine.

I made just a few suggestions. They are:

magic_quotes_gpc=Off ; turn ON

Sets the magic_quotes state for GPC (Get/Post/Cookie) operations. When

magic_quotes are on, all ' (single-quote), " (double quote), (backslash)

and NUL's are escaped with a backslash automatically.

track_vars = ON ; add this

If enabled, then Environment, GET, POST, Cookie, and Server variables

can be found in the global associative arrays $_ENV, $_GET, $_POST,

$_COOKIE, and $_SERVER.

register_argc_argv=Off ;turn On

This permits you to access argc (number of arguments passed to the

application) and argv (array of the actual arguments) in the Command

Line Interface (CLI) SAPI rgardless of version or register_globals setting

you can always go through either $_SERVER or $HTTP_SERVER_VARS.

Example: $_SERVER['argv'] .

error_reporting = E_ALL ; turn OFF to see what happens after you have

tested for your path errors.

Here is your php.ini revealed:

Every environment is different, and it's difficult for those of us remotely to assist without having all the information. Consequently, you will need to be patient to help us understand the logic of the environment you are working in. By so doing, you will better understand it as well. As I suggested in my initial posting, many of the errors you submitted for review to this forum are path related and directly related to the include and require files that the program is not able to locate. Once you are able to identify the correct paths on your system, then OCS will work its magic for you.

Good luck.
