I think you should go and do it again, properly.

It hurts my eyes to look at it, im sorry but i dont like it one bit.

Its obvious that you have worked on it and thats to your credit, but you really should think about making it more pleasing on the eye.

So are there any other suggestions besides scrapping the entire site as it seems to be an eye-sore?

I like the site over all, you clearly did a lot of customization on the oscommerce software. I like the login box where the search box used to be! But I can tell you modified a lot more than that.

I have some (hopefully) constructive input. Where the products our listed, the background is really bright compared to the rest of the site, maybe try a darker background? Also, on the main page there is a lot of text that is different sizes. For me, the main page is the hardest on the eyes. Maybe stick to only two different size fonts, instead of 3. And finally, the first page with the "I agree" button has purple-ish font that seems a lot easier to read than the next page it goes to with the white font. Maybe make it all purple? Consistancy is good to have too.

Anyway those are just suggestions. Overall I think it's looking pretty good and your DVD's are rediculously cheap! Any tips for me on how to find good suppliers for other types of products? I know you can't get terribly specific but you clearly are pretty good at finding cheap suppliers if you have the prices you do on those dvd's. But yeah, I like it! Keep up the good work!

yowsa.. yeah the back ground is rough.. especially with the red links it just clashes. although once you're past the warning page its a lot better. i am not personally a fan of static backgrounds, but that's up to you. But the red on grey like that is rough on the eyes.

I notice you have your entry page at http://www.shanesdvdworld.com and your actual store at http://shanesdvdworld.com/index.php.

I'm not sure that is the correct way to do it although I'm far from being an expert so I'll let the osc experts comment on that.

I agree with what's been said above, the grey drop effect background isn't very much in tone with the red text, links, and the buttons on the entry page.

The border of your boxes should stand out more in my opinion.

If I were you I'd stick with a plain background and rethink the colours and banners.

You can do some pretty amazing things with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

Do you have an SSL certificate? If you don't, get one and ssl protect all the pages related to account and payment. I have found that customers are very reluctant about typing their name and address in unsecure pages, let alone payment info.

Don't get a shared SSL some webhosts offer, it's much better to get a private one through a reputable company (Geotrust, Verisign, etc) and put your icon on the home page, very reassuring to customers.

Your contact page lacks information, put your name, physical address, phone number, fax number. Make it easy to contact you, or else people might think you don't put your name because you're not a serious business.

Get rid of XXXX requests since Tuesday 14 August, 2007, it's nobody's business how frequented your site is and when you started business.

Add the Ultimate SEO URL's contribution to optimize your links and also Header Tags Controller, very good for search engines.

Do you have "purchase without an account"? I would add that as well.

Thanks for the feedback. I am currently working on making the background darker and getting rid of the red on the warning page. The PWA is a work in progress as it keeps giving me headaches and heartaches. And yes, I need to get the header tags and the Ultimate SEO installed. These changes will take a bit as I am neurotic about testing every which way to ensure they will all work.

Biancoblu, the entry page at http://www.shanesdvdworld.com is a landing page to warn those of the contents.

Thx

Matthew

Hi,

Personally I'm not a big fan of all the boxes and stuff that OsCommerce has by default. I put my site up yesterday after a month and a half of major tweaking to get it looking as clean as possible. The only thing is that your site possibly sells better than mine as there are more things showing things like "SPECIAL OFFER!", "LOOK AT THIS!", "YOU MIGHT LIKE THIS TOO!" and that kind of thing. I need to figure out a way of doing stuff like that on my site.

To be honest, I'm not overly keen on the fixed background, moving text look either as I think it makes it a bit hard to read and follow.

I've just opened a thread for feedback too:

http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=302114

Anyway, I hope that it goes well for you. Tweaking it and listening to feedback from friends, customers and forum members will soon have it just as you want it.

Regards from Madrid!

Hey all, My site is shut down due to a cease and desist order from a Beverly hilss law firm. Seems others were concerned with me ruining their good name.

i am re-launching under the name www.rogersdvds.com and will be looking for your feedback once i am in business.

thx

this may sound nosey, but how can an online store infringe on someone else's right to sell the same products? I would LOVE to hear more about this lawsuit..

It'll be because the store name is very similar to an adult franchise and website.

Just Google "shane's world" and you'll see what I mean (don't do it at work, obviously)
