DeptofWorks
Hi there, The documentation for OS Commerce RC 2.2 a suggests that permissions for the catalog / images folder should be set to 777. Is it safe to do this? my assumption is that this would be dangerous to do.... What would be the alternative to this? thanks, Dan.
web-project
depends on server configuration, I can say that on some servers you don't even need to set the chmod to 777 on the folder due to PHP run under username instead of "nobody" user, also various protections like firewall, user directory protection. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues. I at first had a problem uploading images through the admin section.. but of course the problem was that the images were trying to be saved by apache which has no access to that folder.. what needed to be done was I added the apache user to my user's group. Then when I uploaded any images through the admin side.. there werent any problems as apache is now part of the same group as my own user account.
