Blurry Images

Recommended Posts

I'm having a problem with my product images looking blurry once they are added to my site. They look good in photoshop but bad in oscommerce. I've read many old posts with the same problem and I'm wondering what contribution is most recommended in order to solve this problem?

*** also, if anyone has any suggestions for my other post (view my profile page) that would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

Re: Specials Price - A quick solution is to type new Special Price into Product Description after the Title of product (to optimise product title for search engine results).

You will then reveal NEW Special Price of product to customer.

Secondly, re: blurry images

Personally, I get very good clear image reproduction from using the basic Windows Paint Program and Irvanview is another good one (type in and download from Google). Irfanview offers alot and I maybe do things a little different but simplicity of Programs is the key sometimes. See below for run down:

Download newest version of Irvanview.

Right click on image you want to edit and opt for 'open in irvanview'

Once Irvanview is open and image in viewer - click on 'image' then 'resize'

Resize to approx 250 x250 (you can opt to keep original sized image upon SAVE)

Save image

Open up Paint program - should be in your programs when you click on START

Locate your new image within OPEN option

Make sure white 'canvas' behind image is equal in size to image (or select and COPY entire image THEN click NEW. On blank canvas click PASTE.) Size of both canvas and image can be altered by carefully clicking on corners of each and holding down left click to drag.

Basically, have a play but maintain 250x250 for probable best results (size can be seen changing upon drag on bttm right of screen.

You can also select and COPY certain areas of original image and COPY then click on EDIT, SELECT ALL and CUT. Once blank canvas revealed click PASTE. Low and behold your new edited 'picture' will be revealed. Again make sure canvas is sized as above and you can still move the new picture around by selecting it.

SAVE AS new named image and if you like it- to save confusion when uploading - delete original image!

Hope this helps? Other folks may have alternative better methods of course??

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

How does the price being in the Product Description help w/ search engines? And for the image subject, I don't think that will work for me because then the customer won't be able to enlarge the picture.

My problem with the images is that they look bad and blurry unless you "Click to enlarge" to the original size. If I make the image smaller to fit the exact dimensions of the dimensions used in the Admin>Images section I'd have the same problem - the picture would not enlarge.

I know that there are several contributions to solve my image problem and I'm wondering if there is one that is head and shoulders above the rest?

Thanks again.

On the fly auto thumbnailer using gd library is a very popular contrib.

Make all your images the same size, for example 400x400?

Then set the image size to say, 100x100, in catalog admin>Configuration>Images>

Small Image Width

Small Image Height

Subcategory Image Width

Subcategory Image Height
