Guest Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 After having some work done on my site by a contributor, I thought it wise to change my administrator username and password. Well, I did and now I cannot access squat! Im getting this error: Authorization Required This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/2.2.8 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8g DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at www.clearcreekscraps.com Port 80 HELPPPPPPPP! thanks!!
Guest Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 How exactly did you change your username and password? Did you do it within osCommerce (i.e. you're using a recent-ish version) or did you do it with your web hosting control panel? -jared
maritrench Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I'm having a similar problem. I can login to the admin panel with either of two admin logins that I've set up, but my client can't. Assuming he's not typing things in wrong (and he'd better not be, I let him pick his own login and password when I set it up) is there any reason he should be having this trouble? Something to do with IP addresses maybe? I really don't want to have to drive an hour to stand over his shoulder to figure this out, but it's holding up my final payment. ETA: I'm using the latest version of osCommerce and other clients have had no problem.

Thanks for helping.
Guest Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Okay, I am able to logon using the second administrator that I initially set up, but cannot logon using the one I changed. GRRR, I hate it when I break my store! Thanks all for helping, Michelle

Ugh, Im about to have a nervous breakdown...LOL Now I cant get there using the other username and password. I had Header Tag Controller SEO installed by Jack, could that have anything to do with it? I hope not because I am happy with the contrib. How can I get to my stuff? Thanks!
Guest Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 WEIRD. After trying everything I could think of and tinkering around here and there, I got in. I immeditely went to the Administrators option and changed the new username and password back to the original. Now Im in...well, for now. We'll see how it works after I sign out and reboot and let it set for a while...LOL Thanks for everyone's help and will let you know how it goes.
special1 Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I was locked out recently too and had to do this: Set up a customer account on your site and take note of the password. Then go into your database files through your hosting service and go to the administrator area and set up a new administrator. For the password, cop & paste the encrypted password from the customer account that you created into the password area (it's the only way to get a properly encrypted password). Once you have the new admin username & password set up you can go to the admin login page and type in the new username and actual password (not the encrypted version) Let me knwoif you need more help. kristen \ After having some work done on my site by a contributor, I thought it wise to change my administrator username and password. dryheat Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 This may not be your problem or situation, but I encountered this when upgrading from a mysql 4.0 DB to a 4.1. The way that MySQL works internally to encrypt passwords changed. They went from a 16 byte hash to a longer 41 Byte version. According to the MySQL docuumentation (mysql.com) the new version should have been able to decipher the old encryption, but it did not. Note, that this algorithm is different than what OSC uses for user passwords. User/customer passwords were not affected. What I had to do was to go into the hosting company's MySQL administrative console (phpMyAdmin) and create a new encryption. Then I pasted it into the administrator table password field for the administrator-user. SQL code: SELECT password( 'password' ) In this example, replace 'password' with your clear text password in single quotes. The resulting encryption will start with an asterisk "*" character. (for this case it's *2470C0C06DEE42FD1618BB99005ADCA2EC9D1E19 ) Once I did this, the admin login screen worked fine. I'm not sure which version this is as I inherited this installation, but it uses the login.php screen with a <form> and not the .htaccess login.
