Help on PayPal Website Standard Payment

Recommended Posts

I have a Website Payment account in PayPal.

Can some one guide me to enable paypal website standard? Below, I added my comments for each parameter (information) to fill out or activate. Just to see where I am wrong or must give information or not. For some of the parameters, I do not know exactly what they refer in the first place. I made a bold on my comments corresponding to each information to fill out.

Enable PayPal Website Payments Standard (well, I chose true to activate)

Do you want to accept PayPal Website Payments Standard payments?

E-Mail Address (Ok to add my paypal email address)

The PayPal seller e-mail address to accept payments for

Payment Zone (there a default and another say Florida. Should I leave it with default ?)

If a zone is selected, only enable this payment method for that zone.

Set Preparing Order Status (I left it with the default "Preparing [PayPal Standard]")

Set the status of prepared orders made with this payment module to this value

Set PayPal Acknowledged Order Status (left the "default" though have no idea for the other options)

Set the status of orders made with this payment module to this value

Gateway Server (the default is "live" but have no idea about the difference)

Use the testing (sandbox) or live gateway server for transactions?

Transaction Method (well, I left the default Sale)

The processing method to use for each transaction.

Page Style (my primary page style at paypal is "PayPal" itself. I type PayPal, right ?)

The page style to use for the transaction procedure (defined at your PayPal Profile page)

Debug E-Mail Address (is it the same as paypal email address ?)

All parameters of an Invalid IPN notification will be sent to this email address if one is entered.

Sort order of display. (may I keep the "0" as I do not plan to add other payment method for the time being ?)

Sort order of display. Lowest is displayed first.

Enable Encrypted Web Payments (my payments should be at PayPal page. So, may I keep the default false ?)

Do you want to enable Encrypted Web Payments?

Your Private Key (I do not have any idea about it. Where can we find such key ? or should I leave empty ?)

The location of your Private Key to use for signing the data. (*.pem)

Your Public Certificate (I see I can download from PayPal but is it a must to fill out here ?)

The location of your Public Certificate to use for signing the data. (*.pem)

PayPals Public Certificate (is that a must to fill ?)

The location of the PayPal Public Certificate for encrypting the data.

Your PayPal Public Certificate ID (I do not have it. I do not use Encrypted web payment in my website. I use PayPal page)

The Certificate ID to use from your PayPal Encrypted Payment Settings Profile.

Working Directory (which working directory ?)

The working directory to use for temporary files. (trailing slash needed)

OpenSSL Location (I do not have SSL, if that refers https server. So, what shall I do with this field ?)

The location of the openssl binary file.

I just went though the same process. I was able to read a lot of previous posts, and I got it working.

This is not a step by step tutorial, just a couple keys things that held me up.

  • Like many others have said, you do not need to enter the key or certificates near the bottom. Just leave them blank.
  • The big thing that held me up was when I switched to Sandbox to test it out I left my real email address (not my custom Sandbox given address) in the email field. Once I switched that it worked fine.
  • Do not over complicate things. It is much easier then it seems.

Here is a list of my settings.

I thank you for your comments. I followed the steps you passed throu but, out of luck, am still getting "Internal Server Error" message. Am now at the point to give up as I do not know where that error is coming from. My PayPal account is fine as I have been receiving and/or withdrawing/paying funds. the hosters say they have the required parameters set to run the shopping cart. I was euphoric when I discovered osc but didn't know that I could encounter that much pain. I have been trying for more than four days but nothing is coming out so far.
