guidance for performing an upgrade

I have inherited an oscommerce site that has a copyright of 2003 (can't seem to find a version number). My server is being upgraded to php 5 and I'm told I must upgrade to the latest version of oscommerce for the store to continue working.

The install of the current site is REALLY strange as the /admin directory is at the root but then the store itself is off the root in /catalog..

I'm concerned about losing my site design (the template), and of course, any data.

I've worked with recent versions of zen cart, but never oscommerce. So, I'm excited to learn and hope that I can pull this off with a minimum of pain.

Can anyone help layout what I need to do in order to upgrade to the newer system and retain my site design/template?

Thanks a million.

I am also having this problem with the inherited oscommerce site. There are some quirky things happening because of the upgrade to php 5. The hosting company did some kind of work around to make it mostly work. I found the version number in the Admin under Server. It says my version is osCommerce 2.2-MS2...it looks like they're still on v 2.2 so I'm not sure about the upgrade.

I did find that the Featured Products contribution doesn't work any more...nor does the search function (displays an error). Category titles also don't show up anymore...just says "Our Offerings".

All that to say that you're not alone and I hope that there's someone out there that can direct us on how to do a seamless upgrade.
