OSNewbie
Lisa, does your host provide shared ssl? If so, you can use that. Also, what version are you trying to install?
zippy4
Hi Jason Yes it is shared.......I don't know the version though. If you couldn't tell I'm new at this!
zippy4
I've been searching the archives and have learned a few things but still don't know how to install ssl. I will have to use to servers(I think that's how I say that) http and https Can anyone inform on how to do this? Would it be easier to get one of those freebie ssl? kagg
Hello, If your site is on Linux server with Plesk control panel and the two directories in your website, then I think the following thread may help you: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php...28748&highlight Kagg

addaction
Hi Lisa, Yes it would be better to get your own SSL, either a "freebie" or purchase one for $49 per year. The latter are good certificate and are usually easier to implement than shared ones. Talking about the shared one, what type of control panel do you have? Also ask your host how to implement their shared SSL.
eureka
I have shared SSL and found I still needed my own certificate. Until Dec.31 you can purchase your own certificate from www.ebizid.com for only US$25. I did this and it works well. (This is not and adverstisment just help on a cheap certificate!) dreamscape
you can get SSL certificates from FreeSSL for free as the name implies... The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing - Edmund Burke
OSNewbie
As Kagg as posted above, we asked a similar question ealier. But what we did was, to firstly install your catalog and admin section into your normal "http" webspace and install this via the "install". Now, when you are promted for your "https" setting in the install, simply input your shared ssl url and tick the box below it. Next, what I did was configure the cart to how I wanted (products, prices, currency...etc) and then FTP that catalog into your shared ssl space. (You can download your complete catalog folder from FTP to, say, your desktop, then upload that) There is conflicting advice on how to intergrate shared ssl into your catalog, but I uploaded all the catalog files into my shared ssl space and it works fine. You will also have to manually FTP your product images into your shared ssl space if you make any changes in your catalog products. Hope that made sence
zippy4
Perhaps my problems is in the install...............I went through my control panel (CPanel) and the cart was auto installed. I was never asked for anything......Should I download it through OS itselfs?
addaction
Lisa, Probably not. Cpanel does a correct install of OSC normally. Anton
zippy4
Confusion has set in!! I wonder why it hasn't asked me for anything........ I do notice something....when I'm in Admin. then click to go into the store it says it is a "demo" store. Am I even in the right area.....did I miss something? addaction
No, the standard install puts in the text demo store. You should see the same as the demo store on the OSCommerce site. You can edit the text yourself.
Guest
I'm having a similar problem with shared SSL hosting. Our host says setting need to be www#.hostname.com/user_id/filename ? any suggestions? I did not have this when installing phpBB, or my current store script, so I'm lost. OSNewbie
Sorry, I have never tried OScommerce with Cpanel. I use Plesk myself and what I did was manually FTP the files into my webspace. Maybe this is a long way round but rather then do a CPanel install, try to manually FTP the files into your webspace? Or try going to: www.yourdomain.com/catalog/install/install.php after the Cpanel install, so see if you can configure.
