Hello everyone, I am just about to start trying to use add on's and I wondered if there was a download out there which would give me a practice version on oscommerce to try them out on. I am a bit worried about using them on our live sight without knowing what I am doing.

Any Helps much appreciated.

To create a test shop on your server it's easy if you just make a complete copy of all your current files in a new subdirectory that you makl, then remap the subdomain to that directory. Change the two config files to reflect the new subdirectory and now you will have a test domain of your existing setup to play around with.

Thank you, Thant's really helpful, we are trying to move away from paying people to do things for us. We just aren't confident enough to go straight in an change things on our live shop. Much appreciated, Dav

You shouldn't do that anyway.

You can either create a test shop on your server to practice on or install one of the mini-server packages, like EasyPHP, on your computer.

Thanks for this, I take it that I upload the easyphp file. Then how would I get all the info from my site to the easyphp. I'm sorry to ask so many questions but I am just finding my feet.

Many Thanks

EasyPHP is a package that has several components in it. Once installed and setup, you will have a mini-server on your computer. You then download your site and place it in EasyPHP site directory. You have to set up the configure file and load the database just like you would on a live shop.
