dreamscape Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 hey I just got my virtual server up the other day and my domain registered and pointed to it and its working now... and not 30 minutes after the domain got registered in the DNS servers, I check my error logs and there are quite a few errors fomr attempting to access files that might be on a winnt server. Now since the server I am on is running RedHat 7.3, obviously it causes no REAL harm other than taking up about a meg of bandwidth per day.... I talked to the admin of the server my virtual server is on and he said that it is just windows servers that are infected with some kinda worm... wondering how many of you see this on your servers?? Jan0815 Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 But please keep in mind that I can be that cool only because I read through the bugtraq mailing list, the dshield mailing list, because I check the CERT advisories and spend quite a lot of time on hardening and updating my servers. :-) You can't have everything. burt Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Can only give the exact same advice as Jan. All of our servers get hit massively... Just be sure to keep each updated as fully as possible, and to take time out to read all of the advisories as listed by Jan. Ignore it.
