Hi,

First I would like to say thanks for all you have helped me get my store to where is it, and to OSC in general for providing the base shop. This was something I never expected or thought about doing in a million years . The first time I looked at the code not to mention the control panel, my head spun.

Anyway 4 months later here we are

If you got a moment, your comments, suggestions would be appreciated. It has been opened for a couple of days.

The address is www.clipartandscrap.com

cheers

To be a party pooper:

"Live stores discussed in this channel must be powered by osCommerce Online Merchant and have the "Powered by osCommerce" text displayed on the site."

Your keywords meta tag is repeated 3 times.

Just my impression on the shop page...

I like the layout, and the design. Nice overall feel of the site. However, I find your font too big. Product pictures are too big.

This is fine I suppose, if you're catering to a lot of older folks who may not be used to staring at screens all day long, or with poor eye-sight. But for me, there is not enough content for my eyes. I also like to be drawn to a particular area of the page, and I'm just not getting that.

Hi Jehanne,

Yes the osCommerce text is in your store, but not at the link I first followed. (I hope I don't sound argumentative.)

Site viewed with Firefox2.0 / broken WinXP Pro / Intel 1152x864 32 bit / sound off, javascript and cookies enabled

Comparing your store header logo against the other pages of your site I would like to suggest you size the logo the same at 795x90 instead of 666x75 and change the cell spacing so it looks the same as the other pages. Then your header would look perfectly the same.

This seems to be a well thought out and impressive design. I don't know if it is a template. If it is then good fine. If it is your design, wow.

 With a cup of hot cocoa in hand I took your suggestion "Grab a cup of your favourite drink and pop by our store and click through some fantastic clipart, digital art, scrapbook art, cards, books and much more

However, I find your font too big. Product pictures are too big

I had just the opposite experience wherein the normal font was quite small to read. (Switching to 1024x768 did not help)

I clicked on Click to enlarge and got fooled. You opened a window 125x125 for a 404x404 picture. You can edit the general popup window script or make another one for larger sizes and change the function called to the new function name on products_info.php. At least you didn't forbid resizing the window. (Probably default)

I was able to click on empty categories. You don't want your customers seeing that. If you don't have anything for the category then don't up it up or use the enable categories contribution. I use it (and a morphed version that enables/disables manufacturers) because my main client is always changing things.

In the Banner Box, this text sounds incomplete:

You can also click here to go to our banner exchange and use one of instead.

I don't know if this is a problem but the newsletter info box uses an image with different font than what is used in all the other info box headings.

When I was checking those very informative "information pages" I noticed that I was brought to the "other section". Maybe the "problem' is in what I have become accustomed to expect while reviewing osCommerce sites. I felt kinda "lost" after I noticed the left and right columns had changed. I doubt that a regular customer would notice or have any problem.

Your installed seo contribution was doing its thing marvelously.

Although I sometimes question the value of header meta tags I will still point out I noticed your pages lacked header tags for keywords and descriptions. Keywords which match the page text and searcher's search terms are the most effective.

Pretty darn good site. I'm done with the hot cocoa so I guess the review is done.

Thanks desiredin and dcphosting,

for your comments and suggestions.

Yes the font thing in the store is a problem which I am not sure what to do about it. I do get conflicting reports on the sizing. I think this is because the fck editor uses small, medium etc. I tired last night to correct the store index page with the font size=12 etc which worked fine on explorer and relatively okay on firefox (I really wish they would view the same), but then my categories looked huge in explorer medium view text, and all the "medium" size decriptions looked off and huge, and would have to be fixed. So until I find how to change the category font sizes, seems not to linked to the ccs file for that - it is the contribution great categories- it will have to stay as is :(

Desiredin- ahh I am completely the opposite. I don't like sites with a lot of text, unless it is this forum ;) . Basically I don't have time. I usually scan most things.

You are right the site is not directing the visitor direction in particular. I should remove the big "what's new product box" and replace it with something light the week's highlight where I have more control. I thinking about that but done nothing.

dcphosting - no you don't sound too argumentative :-"

Thanks for the info about what you viewed the site on - that is helpful. I worked it mostly in firefox as I find the OCS and my server work best there for maintenance/ experimentation. I use the 1024x768 resolution. However I think my market uses explorer. There is no sound and very little animation if that is related to the javascript .

Yup it is my design - thanks

Pop up window is set at what ever the default is. I had one time light box but then added additional image contri and got confused and went back to normal popup.

Will look into the empty category contri and ex the empty manufacture.

I have not done really done anything with meta tags etc and take your suggestion and look into it, and the logo.

ahh my computer time is up :). life calls.

thank you both again for taking the time to comment.

I'm not talking a lot of text. You already have that. But text does not have actions. Your first page has content, not calls to action, and other then a login and categories, there is nothing for your surfers to click on the instant they arrive. And the login isn't going to make sales for you, and the categories have to be read. Get them interested on a few major things right off the bat because if they're coming in your front door, and don't know what they're looking for, they're going to need something to grab their attention.

Your page title meta for the store says SCAP and not SCRAP by the way.
