Guest Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Just looking to see which directories you guys think are good to submit to? Doesn't have to be niche although I would like some niche SHOPPING directories if at all possible.
Guest Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 You should spend about an hour a day for the first year just sumbitting to directories, making forum posts (if they allow links in sigs), social bookmarking, etc. In any SE type in "directory, your main keyword" such as "directory, coffee" or "directory, dvd" and do the same for the city you are in, province/state, country, any thing you can think of. If you can do 20 per day for the next year you will be in good shape for links. Don't forget facebook, myspace, blogs, news feeds, articles, etc. also.
Drunker Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Most directories are fee and useless. Google and most search engine has been crack down those sites or lower their PR. instead, They have to added NO FOLLOW in meta tag. That means, your link not count. Most blogs are offer article for fee and they have to added NO FOLLOW tag or their site no PR. for more info, Please goto Official Google Webmaster Central Blog https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=32...674917475753282 DMOZ.org is the best free directory. all data used by major free directories but very seldom to accept submission for now. Wish you luck. Submit to Yahoo directory cost about $299.00/yr, but it worth of it. My question is, We do have more than 100k OSC members, why don't we reciprocal together? My site always welcome for reciprocal
Guest Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Perfectly said that's why I made this post ;) and my other one about the type of shop we all have. Also Blogs can easily take out the No=follow clause no problem at all If I'm not mistaking.
mary08 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Yes, you should definitely submit to DMOZ. However, the url approval can take up to 6 months.
jmscoma Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 I have had close to 1000 visitors to my sit, http://jdsshop.com. Not one sale. All those visitors in one month's time.I have gone to other sites and compared prices. I pretty much got that beat, usually by 300 to 500 dollars on laptops, and pretty good on the cells. What can I do to sell. Maybe give a free pair of shoes for all sales over 200 dollars. I figure something has to be seriusly wrong for that many visotors and no sales. Anybody got ideas??? :'(
desiredin Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 On the internet, 1000 visitors is nothing. Really. Even for a $5 product. Unless those 1000 are highly targetted traffic from search engines (not PPC), do not expect much in terms of conversions.
Guest Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Submitting to directories can help your over all PR and get your some targeted traffic... however, you need to submit to high quality directories. I always look for ones with a PR 3+ and that are relevant to to my site. You do not and should not submit to 100's ... Submitting to 3 or 4 high quality will help way more then submitting to a 100 crappy ones... That's my two cents anyhow :)

Anybody got ideas??? :'( Maybe you need to look at your design, optimisation and where your traffic is coming from. 10 targeted visitors are probably better than 1000 hits from some junk link farm. To tell you the truth (and I mean this in a constructive way) I would think about what you are wanting to sell and just stick to selling that rather than having a bit of everything (boots, hoodies, dell laptops(?)) Back on topic I would look at paying for Yahoo Directory and the human edited ones as they carry a lot more weight than most small directories.
