Installation of new version and copy old versions configuration and products

I'm not really familiar with installation and configuration of OsCommerce. But the version we are using is 1.28 and we're getting a new server which we want to install the new version. My question is, is it possible to copy the configuration (we have a programmer edited some search feature for us), and how? Another question is, is there a way to copy all the categories/products, like export from ver. 1.28 to import to the new version? how? It's a pain doing it one by one using the old one. Appreciate any help.. thanks
