The e-commerce.

Utter, utter, database virgin

Hi everyone, I'm very interested in converting my website www.fuzzbutt.co.uk into OSCommerce as I think it's a superb cart. I used to work as a web programmer but I never got heavily into databases, and now I'm reading the Installation forums and I realise I need to set up and host a database for my cart - ARGH! I have tons of webspace with 1&1 but I don't have a CLUE about php, MySQL, databases, how to set one up, where to start...... :blink: :blink: :blink:

Do I contact 1&1 and see if they can do me bolt-on database facilities on my current package and webspace? I don't even know what to ask for, I'm such a noob :( Please someone point me to the "Virgin's guide to setting up databases" Thanks!

Have done, this is what I've got:

* 1&1 EasyShop

* ePayment

* WebsiteBuilder

* Graphic Archive

* DynamicSiteCreator

* 1&1 Blog

* Dynamic Content

* Photo Gallery

* Basic CGIs (Enhance your website by including forums, guestbooks, visitor counters, and feedback forms.)

* Spreadshirt Merchandising

* Chat

* Perl Syntax Checker (verify the correctness of a Perl script.)

* CGI Output Monitor (If error 500 occurs when running a CGI script, use the CGI output monitor to display error messages which facilitates in isolating the error)

* FormBuilder

* WebStatistics

* 1&1 SMS Manager

* PDF2Web

* 1&1 RSS Creator

* Site Checker

Nothing that mentions databases or PHP, MySQL.

Sorry -- no commercial postings (offering or asking) allowed here.

That said, there are several freelancer websites that offer assistance for many things including osCommerce. Also, if you IM folks on this board I'm sure that there are several who can point you to paid help.

You may find that 1&1 has an automated installer for the stock osCommerce install, though. That's fairly common for webhosters to do.
