Removing "Click to Enlarge" on blank gif or removi

Instead of having the little red X where an image goes ...

 

 

Is there any contribution or code which can allow pictures in some categories or products while omitting them in others?

 

Can images be removed on certain products? Because when we use a transparent GIF it still invites a visitor to "click to englarge."

Or ... in the Admin turn off require images ...
