narela Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 ok so im learning how to use oscommerce and I just started today. All I have done is installed it and got a little familiar with where everything is. I would say my HTML knowledge is above basic but I don't know much about php. I heard stuff about STS templates but is it worth learning? I heard its better to just learn how to edit the design the normal way. Anyways I was wanting to know where I should start and what I should read.. any good tutorial sites out there? I feel like I have lots to learn. Oh and the reason for my learning all this is because my mom is getting more costumers to her website and her site is great but shes tired of not knowing how to do stuff to it because the person who made her website doesn't do that stuff anymore. She likes what she has now... but she wants me to make a new one similar to what she has. Her website is www.zedel.com How much time do you think it will take to learn how to make a site like that. shooter-boy Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 The zedel.com site is very standard looking osCommerce, so it wouldn't take you long. A few CSS changes for colours, and a few minor customisations would get you there. STS is really only useful for major design changes IMO. I can't recommend any tutorial sites, but there are a number of books out on osCommerce. Check out amazon or your local bookstore. Thanks! STS is great for someone with your skillset. The learning curve is far less than what you would need to know in PHP to do the same thing. The stylesheet.css file can make most of your changes regarding to fonts, colors, and such but if you wanted to rearrange things STS will help you greatly. Ausgirl Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 You'll find alot of oscommerce books outdated as with everything oscommerce is forever updating & changing, best to save your money, read what you can online and the forum here, is full of lots of info & people that will help you. You could check out the knowledge BASE & the Add Ons section
