UK Pound as defaulf currency

Hi I am all new to this, I have added the uk pound (gbp) as an additional currency and set it to default, But when I go to view the shop online us dollar is the default currency. How do I change this??? :'(

theres two other settings which are also relevant: if Switch to Default Language Currency is set to True, then

define('LANGUAGE_CURRENCY', 'GBP');

must be GBP as show above in english.php
