Is this correct? If so Make sure you have a SQL server installed. If not, phpmyadmin should be available from your hosts cpanel. as should the ability to create databases. ~~~Tapuahk

FIMBLE
Log in to your web control panel select mysql when page loads in the create new database, out in the name of the database, (you decide this) then in Create users, add a username and password. now you need to add the username and password to the database. you do this on the same page, Add Users To Your Databases: Now you have created your database! Remember when installing OSC it will ask for your database name, and username. you need to put it in with your web site user name as a prefix, so if your user name is "site" your Database user name and database name are: site_database name site_database user name the password is just your password with no prefix Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions

Thanks for posting. BUT, I still can't install because I can't get past the database page. I have the server correct. copy/pasted directely from the database info page webname_databasename (no www or .com, though I did try multiple configurations of both) password webname_databasename and I still get Access Denied for user Any idea what I am still doing wrong? BTW, noob programmer here thanks, Mike
dmnalven
Have you added any database users at your hosting control panel? Please review every feature of your hosting control panel, even if you do not intend to change anything. This is one way for somone not schooled in managing a website to learn how and what is required and where a feature is when the time does come to modify something. RTFM. Learn how to use your new tools. For ALL problems, please review this link first -> osCommerce Knowledge Base

Learn how to use your new tools. There is one user, but I havent set up any others. Do I need to if I will be the only one editing the site? Is there supposed ot be some sort of MySql file in my list of files? Is this generated automatically when I set up the database, or is this soemthing I need to do? BTW, I guess I am using the worst host for the SOCommerce program according to some of the other posts I have read, GoDaddy. Is OSCommerce even usable on there, or should I cancel now and get another host?
dmnalven
You may wish to review this thread: installing oscommerce on godaddy server http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=258627 Godaddy will require a little more set up. MySQL does save your data to files, but you will never see these on shared server. You will interact with the database through a frontend (usually phpmyadmin and sometimes a small proprietary one for just creating databases and users) which is linked to at your hosting services' control panel, or through an application such as osCommerce. Please, please, please review your control panel for its available features, or consult 'help' at your hosting service and understand that the database user is not necessarily the same user who accesses the control panel. A database user must be set up for each database created, complete with password, or there will be no user access.
