Changing 'index.php'

Hi people! Well i am up and running almost, changed the basic look etc, but whenever i make even the slightest change in

languages/eglish/index.php I get a parse error!

for example:

"This is a default setup of osCommerce Online Merchant. Products shown are etc etc etc......

if i even delete the 'T' from "This..........

i get a parsae error? then when i change it back, i still get it and have to delete the file and upload the original?!?

Im prob overlooking something really simple but after hours of reading and banging my head Im still non the wiser...

Can anyone give me the heads up?

Good question, but in this case no. It doesn't matter what i do, i still get the parse error!

say i even delete the letter 's' from

'This is a default setup of osCommerce..........

i get the parse error, any other possibilities i may have overlooked?
