burt Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 This is standard in osCommerce. You give each product a weight. You set up postage by weight.

Guest Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 You did read the topic on Shipping/Packaging did you. It mentions a Package Tare Weight of 3 units (pounds, kgs, grams whatever you use) Hi yes i read the Shipping/Packing I think my problem is I have no Default Shiping unit in Packaging listing page under the Admin>Configuration>Shipping/Packaging section. So I cant set the uniu Lbs Grams ect. Thanks for your help so far should get there in the end Any thoughts on this one
Jan Zonjee Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Hi yes i read the Shipping/Packing I think my problem is I have no Default Shiping unit in Packaging listing page under the Admin>Configuration>Shipping/Packaging section. So I cant set the uniu Lbs Grams ect. That is a problem of the documentation really. The documentation is about version 3, which is still in alpha but most things are similar or the same. However, in version 2 you don't need/can't set shipping units. It's one size fits all for all products.

So what uint of weight is used I have tried to be logical but still getting shipping cost at£210 and £4000 must be using the wrong unit of weight wher in the file system wold that be set?

As I told you before, you cannot set any unit of weight in version 2.2. Actually, what you are posting now as shipping cost contradicts what you said a few posts earlier: Ive set up a price for weight like this .25:1.36,.50:2.00,4.41:10.00If I put the weight of a book in as .25 It still gets charged at 10.00 any ideas

Actually, what you are posting now as shipping cost contradicts what you said a few posts earlier: sorry Im not explaining myself very well when I go to the check out the shipping charge is shown I thought that must be calculated from when I put the a new product on and indicat the weight in the bottom box. Is that not the case??
Jan Zonjee Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 sorry Im not explaining myself very well when I go to the check out the shipping charge is shown I thought that must be calculated from when I put the a new product on and indicat the weight in the bottom box. Is that not the case?? Taking into consideration the calculations osC uses for tare yes. But first you say: Ive set up a price for weight like this .25:1.36,.50:2.00,4.41:10.00If I put the weight of a book in as .25 It still gets charged at 10.00 any ideas and then suddenly that is changed to: but still getting shipping cost at£210 and £4000 Now what is it because according to the table rate you said you entered you cannot get a higher shipping rate than £ 10.

Youve been very good to me today thanks I will chech my facts and sort out what im doing and let you know. Thanks againg. D:\InetPub\vhosts\barrysbargainbooks.co.uk/httpdocs/oscommerce/includes/modules/shipping/ Shipping Table .26:1.36,.50:2.00,4.41:10.00 a book has the following setting Products Weight:4.41 When I go to check out now that Ive change the book weight to 4.00 the check out cost is £10 When I go to check out now that Ive change the book weight to 1.00 the check out will still cost is £10 Any Help
Jan Zonjee Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Shipping Table.26:1.36,.50:2.00,4.41:10.00 a book has the following setting Products Weight:4.41 When I go to check out now that Ive change the book weight to 4.00 the check out cost is £10 When I go to check out now that Ive change the book weight to 1.00 the check out will still cost is £10 OK, on the face of it it is not alright but what are your settings for Package Tare weight and Larger packages - percentage increase. (admin->configuration->Shipping/Packaging). If Package Tare weight is 4 for example that would explain everything.

Depending on the version (see this topic in Tips & Tricks to find out which version you use now) you have now it and how many contributions you already have added I would say make a backup of your database and the files you have now (locally) and try to install a fresh RC2a version. Then remove all the categories and install your backup again (or insert your products and categories again). Upgrading from old version to RC2a is a bit of a pain to do.
