This is standard in osCommerce. You give each product a weight. You set up postage by weight.

thanks Ill see if I can find where I set the weight per cost it must be in config some where

That is a problem of the documentation really. The documentation is about version 3, which is still in alpha but most things are similar or the same. However, in version 2 you don't need/can't set shipping units. It's one size fits all for all products.

So what uint of weight is used I have tried to be logical but still getting shipping cost at£210 and £4000 must be using the wrong unit of weight wher in the file system wold that be set?

As I told you before, you cannot set any unit of weight in version 2.2. Actually, what you are posting now as shipping cost contradicts what you said a few posts earlier:

sorry Im not explaining myself very well when I go to the check out the shipping charge is shown I thought that must be calculated from when I put the a new product on and indicat the weight in the bottom box.

Is that not the case??

Taking into consideration the calculations osC uses for tare yes. But first you say:

Ive set up a price for weight like this .25:1.36,.50:2.00,4.41:10.00

If I put the weight of a book in as .25 It still gets charged at 10.00 any ideas

and then suddenly that is changed to:

but still getting shipping cost at£210 and £4000

Now what is it because according to the table rate you said you entered you cannot get a higher shipping rate than £ 10.

OK, on the face of it it is not alright but what are your settings for Package Tare weight and Larger packages - percentage increase. (admin->configuration->Shipping/Packaging). If Package Tare weight is 4 for example that would explain everything.

No need to start a new topic for this problem you get when you use old versions of osCommerce...

See this topic for example on how to solve this issue on your old version of osC

Depending on the version (see this topic in Tips & Tricks to find out which version you use now) you have now it and how many contributions you already have added I would say make a backup of your database and the files you have now (locally) and try to install a fresh RC2a version. Then remove all the categories and install your backup again (or insert your products and categories again).

Upgrading from old version to RC2a is a bit of a pain to do.
