Sub Categories Not Displaying - Help!

Does anyone know which file displays or does not display sub categories. My cart now just says

 

Displaying 0 to 0 (of 0 products) Result Pages:

 

Displaying 0 to 0 (of 0 products) Result Pages:

Intead of having the picture and sub category names.

 

all we changed ( i think) is the attributes and options for each product.

In confidence... we are not allowed to disclose the site until it is finished but I can elaborate.

 

 

Two days ago... when you click on a category link it goes to a page which discribes the category and displays three sub categories. You then click on one of the product categories and you see its respective products.

 

now that category page only says this
