Oscommere vs Zencart

Hi,

 

I'm new here please go easy on me. This is not just another this vs that thread but I would appreciate the feedback from users with php experience to share their experiences about customizing either of these platforms.

 

I'm not afraid to get down and roll up my sleeves and get into the nuts and bolts of customizing my shopping cart but I hate working with poorly documented or poorly designed products. I've 'heard' (I'm not spamming) that oscommerce's programming may be poorly put together. Please refute this claim for me. I am considering Zencart only because several sources have claimed it to be easier to configure and more nicely put together, Please note I have experience with neither.

 

The bottom line is that if I plan to invest heavily my time in customizing an OS shopping cart, then is OScommerce the right choice for me.

 

I should also add that I am an intermediate to advanced skill level in php programming. My html is very week though.

Zen Cart is a Fork of osCommerce...

 

 

 

Zen Cart has made some changes, and added in some features, but if osc is "poorly" put together than so is Zen Cart

I have used both. I used to use Zen cart before my current OSC store. They are similar in construction since Zen is based off of OSC. The key things that I like about OSC is the huge community support and thousands of contributions available for it. OSC has a much larger user base which leads to problems being solved faster if you happen to come across something you can't figure out. And if you are looking to customize part of your shopping cart, it's likely someone else has had the same idea and has code out there to do it for you, or help you get a head start on fitting it exactly to your needs.
