Thank you!!

that way my clients can pay in my website using a credit card and the payment goes through paypal. correct?

Not quite right.

Your clients order through the website and then are taken to the secure paypal website to enter credit/debit card details and complete payment. The IPN returns them to your site to allow the order emails and stock reduction to be activated.

You could make one of your items 1 penny (or equivalent) and buy it yourself to see what happens.

I'm not sure what you mean by "need the client to pay in the cart".

The paypal system works by the client ordering in the cart and then they are taken to the secure area of paypal to complete purchase. If the IPN is configured correctly they will be returned to your site once payment is taken.

In my own cart this means I get an order email from the cart, a payment email from paypal showing the purchase and the stock level is reduced by the appropriate amount.

If the client has a paypal account it is almost an automatic process. If not, they are given the credit card facility automatically by paypal where they can input their own details. I know many customers shy away from entering credit card details into sites they are not familiar with but they will enter it into well known banking sites like paypal.

Thank you for your help. Now I know how paypal works!

What If I don't want to use paypal, I just want my clients to pay in my shopping cart with cards. I know I have to go to admin/Payment Modules and I will see:

You need a merchant account and an internet payment gateway. Often, the payment gateway (authorize.net et al.) will also offer a merchant account if you don't already have one.

Paypal might be your best option.

In addition to the comments above you would certainly need to make your site secure particularly at the point of payment. This comes at a significant price and coding when you need to install ssl.

Quite often Merchant Gateways direct you to their own secure area where payment is taken in the same way as PayPal do.

I am just enrolling on PayPal webpayments pro which comes with free virtual terminal. You could probably configure the credit card module to send part of the card detail in the order and the other in an email which you could then enter yourself in the virtual terminal. I use it for telephone orders.

Again, you could set up the module and buy something for 1 penny and see what happens.

You're based in the USA so perhaps your best option is to get a Pay Pal Merchants ID and then you can set up one of the Pay Pal modules available for osCommerce which allows customers to remain on your website to process their card payments - the card checking taking place between your site and Pay Pal but in the background.

You will need ssl on your webite whichever payment method you choose, because otherwise data is transmitted in plain text and not encrypted. No one in their right mind buys from a site without ssl these days.

Thank you for the help!

Yes, now I am sure I want to use paypal but I am having some problems, Now Paypal has a conection between my website and paypal but it only works on my website when I select pay with paypal, but if I select the option pay with creadit card it doesn't work, it shows:

Fatal error: Call to a member function call_api() on a non-object in /home/spacexde/public_html/cbhonlinestore.com/checkout_process.php on line 102

What do I have to do?

Another question is, How can I get SSL and how much does it cost?

Thank you!

SSL is about securing the site so shop on straight cost. I have the godaddy SSL for $15 per year. I suspect the insane triple digit priced certificates are targeted at corporate departments who need to justify their budgets because it's the same thing.

You'll find the "difference" is in insurance in case somebody breaks through. Think about surge protecters. Has anybody ever collected insurance on a bad one? I think "no" but I invite everyone to provide evidence to the contrary.

Before you buy one, your hosting company should provide a CSR. That's an encrypted block of text about your server to create the SSL certificate. Once you have your files, ask the hosting company to install them (easy) or do it yourself (faster).

Anyway, do your homework and don't give up.
