askvideo Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I want to give registered users the ability to watch QuickTime movies if they are logged in. I also want the user to not be able to download the movie - only play it. I know I need to turn on kiosk mode in QuickTime but how do I protect the movie? I guess the real question is how do I protect the download link so that they cannot download it on their own. I prefer not to stream the video as I don't have a streaming QuickTime server. Would this have to do something with putting the videos in the /home folder of your website which would be outside of the /public_html site? If anyone has experience in this matter please reply. Thanks a million! :-)
Guest Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 i dont know how you will get things to work if you do not want to stream the video yet allow the customer to watch the video. have you thought that portion through?
askvideo Posted April 1, 2008 Author Posted April 1, 2008 Perhaps we are just confused on the wording. TRUE (used loosely) Streaming for QuickTime .mov movies is using Apple's Streaming Server Technology - which I will not use. I have a regular Linux server. So the user will watch the video and it will load up on the the screen for them but it will not stream like youtube does which is flash anyway. Once the video is loaded you can move around in it as if it was on your desktop. See the difference? So how can I protect this? Should I be using .htaccess for this? Thanks.
