My original website was set up on www.sewingchest.co.uk, I then set up a new one at www.corsetmaking.co.uk using the oscommerce. Finally i felt it was adequately done so decided to close down the site on sewingchest and point the domain name to corsetmaking.

I have discontinued the hosting with sewingchest and pointed the name to the other, but when i type in www.sewingchest.co.uk all it come up with is name not found.

this is a big problem as the website had been running for several years and had developed a top listing on the search engines for many of my products all which are now listed (and not yet showing on search engines) on the new site.

I really need to redirect the domain name as i'm losing a lot of custom and can't understand why this has happened. could the host be 'holding' my domain name and if so how do i get it realeased - i would have thought they would have done this automatically.

Thank you kellie

Running a botched up version of  osCommerce Online Merchant v2.3.4 bootstrap with the dresscode theme installed, numerous add-ons, terrible coding, terrible website, but will have to make do until I have made up for my losses and can risk shutting down for a couple of weeks while I start all over again. - I did not install my program but am endeavouring to fix it with your help.

Not all hosts will release a domain name if they own it. You should always register a domain name with a third party (one you will not host with) for that reason. In this case, you will need to login to the registrar of the domain name and see what the nameserver entries are set to. If they are not pointing to your new server, then the first change either didn't take or was blocked. You would need to talk to that site to find out why that happened.

Instead of posting here with a non OSC issue, have you tried contacting the registrar or your hosts?

Hi - the domain name was registered to a third party - i own the domain name, not the host, i registered it seperatly before i ever used them.

I have contacted them, but i no-linger have hosting with them so i cannot open a support ticket and they are ignoring my emails. I have seen a fall in trade since this happened by 80%, its really affecting my business so i'm a my wits end.

whomever you registered your domain name with most likely holds your dns pointer records. login to your account there and then look for dns. you also need to know what the dns address' and names to be used for the new server are so you can change to them.
