Background Failure

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have read virtually everything on this forum and others regarding background images and am having no joy here.

Currently, this is the background data held in the stylesheet.css

BODY {
 background: #F5FFFA;
 color: #000000;
 margin: 0px;
}

I have changed it to the following:

BODY {
text-align: center;
background-image: url ('images/pink127.jpg');
background-repeat: repeat
color: #000000;
margin: 0px;
}

And have tried the following as guided by the Flash Tutorials

BODY {
 /* background: #F5FFFA; */
 background-image: url ('images/pink127.jpg');
 background-repeat: repeat
 color: #000000;
 margin: 0px;
}

I have put in ";" after repeat and left it out and still, neither in Firefox nor in IE do I end up with a background image. In fact, the only thing there is a standard "#000000" background. I have also tried putting in the full url to call the image from "https:" with no result.

The images are uploaded and they are callable from the server.

Any recommendations would be helpful.

Thank you

Try this

BODY {
background-image: url (images/pink127.jpg);
}

The biggest thing was the quotes around the image. Also, you may want to try full URL if that does not work, again with no quotes

Sadly, it did not work. Neither with the full url or the extension. I have no idea what is going on.

Earlier, I changed the name "Categories" to "Departments" and even that is changing with refreshing the browser. I am thinking there is something in the stylesheet.css that may be impacting the way this site is responding or in another area. No idea but the frustration is mounting to be sure.

Thank you though Avec for your suggestion.

This worked in Firefox (using the Web developer plugin):

background-image: url(images/pink127.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat

Thank you Jim. I am beginning to feel quite the fool here!

I'm just glad it worked!

On a side note, I noticed all your pages are SSL now????

Did you know Google doesn't index SSL pages?

Something to work on then! I make those changes through config.php file :blush: yes?

Yup.

Probably just need to change the https to http in your definition of HTTP_SERVER in your /catalog/configure.php

And I'm getting a Java Script error in IE7 in your Google analytics script.

There is a fix for it here:

Google-analytics and SSL

It's not the same error ( _gat is undefined ), but I still believe the fix will cure your error, too.

:)

http: call files for SSL have now been adjusted out in the includes/configure.php

I have changed from the basic analytics code to the advanced, made a couple of syntax errors along the way but I am no longer getting parse errors so I am presuming that I have done this correctly and made your correction in the code.

Thanks Jim, as always you are right on the mark!

Now I need to figure out how to raise the product pictures from the bottom to the top of the index page and the text copy to the bottom. Will play with it for a while!

The Google java script and links on your main page (outside your osc store) still need attention. The links are still https.

And all the category links inside the store are still https?

I just noticed you have the SEO urls contribution installed.

I'd say you'll need to change your .htaccess file to get your category links back to http.

I guess that would be why nothing I have been doing is working. All the information pages are fine but not the product pages.

So, do I delete the ReWrite Rules lines or do all or some have to be modified? Here is the "most" of the content of the .htaccess file under catalog

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /catalog/

RewriteRule ^(.*)-p-(.*).html$ product_info.php?products_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-c-(.*).html$ index.php?cPath=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-m-(.*).html$ index.php?manufacturers_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-pi-(.*).html$ popup_image.php?pID=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-t-(.*).html$ articles.php?tPath=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-a-(.*).html$ article_info.php?articles_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-pr-(.*).html$ product_reviews.php?products_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-pri-(.*).html$ product_reviews_info.php?products_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-i-(.*).html$ information.php?info_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-links-(.*).html$ links.php?lPath=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}

Thank Jim!

Well, I don't see anything there that helps me.

But I'm no .htaccess guru.

:blush:

I'm not eve sure if the problem is we need to see more of the file, or something else needs changed.

I just thought of something.

I've seen some of the SEO guru's tell people to "clear their SEO cache".

Does that make any sense to you, 'cuz I don't know how to do it.

I love a challenge! ;) I have no idea what the seo cache is either but if it is there I will find it! I'll let you know -- LOL if I am not back within the week send out the search party :thumbsup:

I am reasonably certain it's something you do in your Admin.

It is! I have just now reset it, but it does not seem to fix the problem. On the MSN Browser, the IE and the Mozilla, the index page leads into a category page non-SSL but then when I click on another category, it takes me into the SSL page for that category so I am going to have to dig deeper and go right back into the archives to see if there are any other similar occurrences that might match this one.

Thank you so much for your time on this Jim.

I take it you don't remember the exact steps you took to make it go SSL?

:unsure:

It didn't used to be that way.

If you can remeber everything you did to make it go that way, you cold backtrack and undo it all.. I think.

The site went SSL as soon as the certificate was issued so my memory does not go back that far. I need to track the source of where the ssl is originating in all of the affected documents then perhaps I can figure out how to undo it. Failing that I will essentially have to start off from square one. Which, at this point in time isn't a huge deal. Just unwrap the site from around the dbase and start again! Last resort of course.

Cheers

Installation of a SSL certificate doesn't automatically make the whole site SSL.

You have to request the HTTPS for the certificate to even come into play. It won't activate all by itself.

It's got to be in the .htaccess or your catalog configure file.

You can PM them to me if you want me to look them over privately.

RESOLUTION to SSL in Product Pages

Summary - This started with a problem getting the background image set up and that portion was resolved by eliminating the space between the "url" and the "(" as follows:

BODY {
background-image: url(images/pink127.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat
}

As a result of his attention to my site, Germ indicated a problem with the SSL showing up on the internal pages "https:www.adorablyyoulingerie.com/costumes.php" for instance rather than the non-ssl version "http:www.adorablyyoulingerie.com/costumes.php" which is preferred and is the only format spidered by Google.

Germ guided me through a number of changes that were beyond my level of expertise and he came up with the solution that worked that is recorded below for those who, like myself would have no idea as to where to look for such a problem when the includes/stylesheet.css does not need changing or the .htaccess is intact.

SOLUTION:

Go to admin panel
Click on "Configuration"
Look down the list to "Cache"
Ensure it is set to "FALSE"
Test your pages.

It is so simple and yet so elusive. Thank you Germ. Good job!
