beNippon Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Hi, beNippon, a Japan Export site, is running quite well from January 2007 (thanks to osCommerce!), but we wondered what the OsC Community may think of it. Let us know your feedbacks! :)
tastar Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Hi - I'm surprised that no one commented on your site - it's really great - even though it has that stock osCommerce look, it is way, way more than stock osCommerce - it has sophistication and complexity that make it interesting. And, I think that the osCommerce look is fine for what you are presenting. The site looks cluttered, with lots of stuff going on, but I would guess that for your target audience (gamers, younger people?) having a lot going on is normal day-to-day and that the clutter probably makes your visitors feel at home. I like the random product selection in the categories - do you get a lot of hits on the link? It seems like it would be a good way to intro to stuff that you offer - and maybe rigging the random products would provide a walk through of the items that you feel should be prominently displayed. A couple of problems: the hover text on the pop-up images (really nice implementation of a pop-up image, too) says to use arrow keys for next and previous, but that isn't implemented; you don't seem to have SSL (essential?); you don't prominently display payment methods; and finally, the site is so complex that it must be difficult to catch things like broken links - I found a couple on referrals to an external site (the You Found A Mistake link is really nice, but will people use it?). In any case, very nice job - you guys are really sharp and put an enormous amount of effort into a very carefully crafted site. Thank you for presenting it. Tony
beNippon Posted April 10, 2008 Author Posted April 10, 2008 Hello Tony, Thank you very much for your long report! Random product link is not so popular, probably because as we provide several different types of products (mostly books, figures and electronics), the results may not be satisfying for a given customer. The pop-up images right and previous keys is tested and working with Firefox, Opera and IE. It may have not worked for you because there were only one image on the page (and therefore nothing else to show). Byt the way, we use the great soft from http://vikjavev.no/highslide/ Right, no SSL for account pages yet. Because all payments are done via payment providers sites (Paypal, etc.) or offline we don't believe it to be essential. We will make more visibless payments methods, thank you for the idea. Japan makers often change their sites' structure, but usually they won't use .htaccess or any redirection... The "You Found A Mistake" form is used at 90% by spambots (they are still rare), but it happens that a customer kindly suggest a correction, or ask a question about the products. Thank you for your comment.
