osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Admin takes 100% of CPU !

We just hired a full time person to manage our product base. And it is not going well. We realized that whenver admin adds or edits products/categories, CPU usage goes through the roof.

At the same time our customers are experiencing slow response times. Pages that usualy take milliseconds to parse now take minutes!

This is only when admin is working on products/categories. Otherwise, our shop is fast and reliable!

We only have about 1500 products and several hundred categories. Our product base should increase to 20,000 within months ( hopefully ).

We did add a few contributions. Products sort order, Meta tags, SEO. etc.

Guys, does anyone else experience similar problems?

Could this be due to some improper MySQL settings?

Any other ideas?

Thank you very much for your help!

what sort of specs of your server?

try to repair, opimize tables

Any other ideas?

optimize the settings of server, if not helps do the upgrade to new one.

Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here!

8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself.

Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues.

Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.

We only have about 1500 products and several hundred categories.

Which will generate at least twice the several hundred MySQL queries on certain pages. There are contributions who can prevent that (from the top of my head optimize categories box and tep_category_tree optimization, something like that).

But it is still strange that the catalog side would be fast and only the admin page affected...

Thank you. We did optimize categories box. No category counts are performed.

Page with 90 products only performs about 130 queries.

Catalog side is only fast when Admin is not working...

optimize the settings of server, if not helps do the upgrade to new one.

Specs on the server:

vendor_id : GenuineIntel

cpu family : 6

model : 15

model name: Intel® Xeon® CPU E5335 @ 2.00GHz

stepping : 7

cpu MHz : 498.786

cache size : 4096 KB

I believe we have 800 MB of memory

I optimize and repair tables on a daily basis and it does n't seem to help.

That is a good point. I've actually installed a copy of our shop on a new server with more resources allocated to us. Testing showed the same problem.

Admin working in CATALOG section slows down the whole site...

Thank you for your help. Do you have any other suggestions?
