osCommerce

The e-commerce.

New at the starting gate

This is a work in progress and there is still much to do. However, since this is my first attempt at e-commerce, I would rather know sooner rather than later that I have really screwed this up along the line.

I do know there are issues that require attention but what I think does not matter. It is what the shopper thinks and clearly, they are the ones who put breakfast on the table. So, if you would take a peak at www.adorablyyoulingerie.com and give me your considered and professional opinion it would be gratefully received regardless of how harsh.

Many thanks

Does the world need yet another sexy lingerie website? Probably not. It's a very competitive market with loads of sites selling the same things and if you hope to beat your rivals then you're going to have to do something exceptional design-wise and not just tart up a basic osCommerce install with a few colour changes.

Recommendations?

1. Lose the splash page in the root

2. Move the website into the root.

3. Get a good design done.

Things you did right?

1. Full SSL

2. SEO URLs

3. Meta Tags

A very competitive market...have a look here: http://www.clubosc.com/hot100/

You will see at least 3 or 4 Lingerie type sites, including "Eye Kandee Lingerie" and "Oh Cheri" - that's what you've put yourself up against. So, how can you beat these sites? It's difficult, but do-able.

Well - the type of buyer that you are aiming at is probably not going to look twice at a site that is not "cool". My suggestion would be to have a total revamp of your exsiting site to somehting that at least looks unlike osCommerce (which in my opinion is a stale design). once you have a design out the way, you then need to think up a gimmick. Eg: buy a pair of panties, and get edible panties for free. Or whatever! Do somehting so that people will REMEMBER your store above others.

Went to the site and page did not load but this error showed up

Fatal error: Call to a member function add_current_page() on a non-object in /usr/www/virtual/mhacorpd/www.adorablyyoulingerie.com/catalog/includes/application_top.php on line 312

Dont know what it means, but it cant be good

Thank you for your input.

First let me begin by saying that Adorably You was specifically developed to be a premium to an existing romance site and it is from there where the clients are coming and since the clients are very focused when they come to the site there is a higher closing rate. This said, it does not eliminate or minimize the need to have a good design in place that is appealing to the general masses.

Vger - Your critique is valid and is now being addressed - thank you

burt - Thank you for pointing us in the direction of clubosc it will prove to be invaluable in the design phase.

titanwholesale - I have no idea why the page did not load. It appears to be functioning properly and has for the past 12 hours. Some sort of php anomaly or hiccup I presume.

Thank you once again.

I would check your server error logs to see what is going on. Computers do not have "anomalys" or "hiccups". If it happened before, it will happen again if it is not addressed.

I assume your server is under a very limited stress load which means this is the best everything is going to run. Throw a couple thousand visits a day, and it could be a whole different story.

Not to mention if you're feeding your site CPCs. You're just throwing your money away and losing customers for life.

Do all you can do to duplicate the error, because it happened for a reason.

That is extremely valuable information and I thank you for pointing that out. I will get to the cause of the problem.

Again, many thanks
