superfireydave Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Hi all. I had a shopping cart which was almost ready to go live. I went back to reconfigure some shipping details with the products, and as I tried to save an edit I was presented with the following error: " Forbidden You don't have permission to access /catalog/admin/categories.php on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. " I've tried a fresh reinstall and deleted and recreated the attached database. I'm still getting the same errors. Any help or enlightenment is appreciated.
♥Vger Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 You need to have permissions of 755 on your folders, 644 on your files. Occasionally, with some hosts, their servers are set up so poorly that you have to use 777 for some folders, which is a major security risk. It may also be that your hosting company has not set up the Ownership of permissions correctly. I've known cases where they are owned by Apache, which is the server and only available to the server, and not User which is what they should be. Vger

If you were using the admin filemanager, it could have caused errors.
superfireydave Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 Cheers Vger, I'll take a look at it now. What's perplexing is that it *was* working, then randomly decided not to. I thought it'd be either one or the other, but we'll have a look. The cart *is* on fairly cheap hosting though, so that may play some part. It certainly doesn't have the problem in an exact same configuration on my own server >_< How and what were you editing? If you were using the admin filemanager, it could have caused errors. Categories, through the admin category screens. It's the only thing I have problems with.
superfireydave Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 Alright, it's finally decided it wants to add products correctly after 2 different installs where I went through afterwards and manually changed the permissions. It's now decided that each item is actually going to be "$0.00" regardless of the price entered [the price also shows up in the admin category view, but still not on the main catalog view] nor will it charge the user shipping.

Have you changed or deleted currencies?
superfireydave Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Yeah, I did change the name of the US Dollar currency. I thought it might be something silly like that. I've made sure it's set as the default currency though, so I'm not sure what's going on. Perhaps I need more sleep :<

superfireydave Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 And I'm back to step one again. I've tried changing the different permissions countless times to no avail, and yeah - it's rather frustrating. I'll try a fresh install for perhaps the seventh time and see if I can make it work.
superfireydave Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Eurgh, I can't seem to find a way to edit my post, so apologies for double posting. I've reinstalled it 4 times during the past hour and a bit. Each of them with different databases etc. Each one cannot add a category or item etc once it's installed. I'm guessing it's almost entirely an issue with the hosting (the client is using a cheap plan that was with their previous website) so I'm not sure where to turn. If there is a magical fix that makes it work that I haven't been told about - that'd be awesome. But for now I think I'm going to have to start talking about getting new hosting >_<
