Ladies and Gents,

I would be keen for some brutal feedback on our store GNB Salon Supplies

Notes:

  1. Still working on product images. With over 1650 products in the catalog, I still have around 100-120 more images left to upload and need to fix some crappy photography left from the previous shop owners. Another day or two should get those sorted.
  2. I have tested in IE7, Firefox, Camino and Safari. A small issue in Safari was noted where the Information Box width appeared to display incorrectly.
  3. I suck at design, so used a template from a contribution and tweaked it a little to suit.
  4. All contributions used are credited via the "About this Site" link in the Information Pages

Any suggestions to improve the customer's experience would be warmly welcomed.

THIS SHOP IS LIVE.

Thanks. You all rock.

I don't like the way you redirect to another URL for SSL.

Needs more color or contrast. Very, very flat. Also loaded very slowly for me - every page was slow.

The "my account", "cart contents" and "check out" icons in the upper right are not self-evident. I assumed they were for something, so i moused over to see the link. Otherwise would not have thought to click. Don't care for the shared SSL, but you can fix that as sales pick up.

I like the new page icons (telephone, exclamation point, etc instead of stock ones)

1) You shop is only for above 800x600 screen resolution.

2) Who care about your / my /other sellers Bestsellers?

3) Bottom of the shop is standard oscommerce blue bar

4) You need aligned properly SEARCH GNB with search button or replace the search button

5) Are they real & wrote by clients or faked? (about reviews)

Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here!

8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself.

Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues.

Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.

Too much introduction text, it pushes your products too far down the screen, not all customers have the patience to read through. provide your 'about us' information in snippets and a link in case customers need to read further.

Yep, understood. Working on a solution for that. The current shared SSL is a short term fix.

Thanks for the feedback.

Indeed. Very bland I agree. I have been messing with the CSS and background .gifs to color things up a little. Will continue to work on that as I learn.

Also, I worked on the icons in the upper-right, I think they do the trick - although I will probably replace them with something less 'cartoonish'. It's on the 'to-do' list.

Shared SSL will be going, soon.

Sales are so-so. GNB has been running for a few years, with healthy turn-over. The online site was originally developed by the previous owners as a tool for an established client base to place orders when it suited them. Many salons/spa's are busy through the day with running their own operations. Giving them them another method of placing their orders outside core business hours is something would be help them. It's a big step up from simple fax/emailed orders.

But previous online store was seriously under-used - and barely more than a stock installation. Hopefully, with a better looking and more functional site, I will provide a better service to our clients as well as attract new business.

Thanks heaps for the tips. :)

1. True - but at some point, I need to draw the line. The majority of users are now at 1024x768 - so that is my starting point.

2. You're right. Gone.

3. True. Missed that. Thanks :) Will try and fix that today/tonight

4. Redesigning the header. Should take care of it.

5. Real - although we asked them to do it - they weren't strictly vollunteered.

Thanks muchly for the advice.

Good point. Will cut down the intro to something more appropriate and link to the 'about us' info page.

Cheers!
