cherbear Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Hi This is the first time posting but have been reading hours of information on the forum. Could you provide feedback on my store in progress. I have zero back end skills so I had to read and change the template in small baby steps. I know I still have a long way to go and still a lot to figure out and read about but I do not want to get to far in to it without some feedback. All suggestions or recommendations are welcome. somethingspecialcollectibles.com/catalog/
digilee Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Personally, I hate the way you are redirected somewhere else for payment/ accounts etc. I understand money might be tight but a private SSL only costs a few bucks a year. As well as that you are making classic mistakes: No thumbnail contrib (On the Fly) Keeping the date and requests footer (not needed) No contact details (about us) Only 1 currency (so why show the dropdown) Category images missing and then nothing in the category. Good start, a bit basic but it's miles better than a lot of others. SolarFrenzy Solar powered gadgets at down to earth prices. CheekyNaughty Promoting British Design

Glad you mentioned the SSL, my hosting company is promoting a sell right now and will look into this. The On the Fly I did see in contributions, so I can download this. The footer I was planning to get rid of Soon. Thanks for pointing out the contract information, I put it in the admin but did not put in english.php (I think this is were it goes, I don't have my notes in front of me). I don't know why the category pictures are missing, do you know where I can find information on this? Do you think I need a different header?
gretchenwf Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Cherbear, -Your background image does not tile seamlessly, which I find quite distracting. - I'm seeing something odd; it almost looks like you have 2 breadcrumbs. There is the one in the 3 maroon bars that says "Back to >> Home" etc. But there is also a small link that says "Home" right above your category box heading. It is pushing "Categories" out of the title bar. Also, when you click on "back To" in the upper breadcrumb it takes you to a page that says under construction. - You have categories with nothing in them. It is frustrating to click on link after link and see "no products to display". - On the pages where you have a lot of text (ie. Privacy Notice), I would suggest trying to break it up into multiple paragraphs or sections. It looks a little overwhelming as one big block. Gretchen

Gretchen Gretchen Thanks for your eye for detail, I did not notice this, so I went back to the store and look and saw exactly what you were talking about. These items need to be changed to look more professional. I am loving the feedback and the help the forum is providing.
