kbking Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Hi, My first priority since I started have been speed and security. I have managed to accomplish this goal and I have also gotten the design to my liking with some small work on html and css. All thanks to the KB and this Community! :) I'm keeping my fingers off of the core files and only make my own changes to parts where I think it is safe. Despite all my precautions some nasty behavior has found its way into my work, and I'm not able to pinpoint what it is. When I go to any part of the shop with an url beginning with http, the header becomes visible immediately but the entire page is blank for about 30-40 seconds before it shows up, and it shows instantly after this period of time. Every page beginning with https are lightning fast, though. Also, I have checked the error logs, but they are all as healthy as they can be, no error whatsoever. As a test, I changed in configure.php so that all pages are called by https and by doing so, the problem is gone. But of course I don't want the shop to be SSL all over, I want it to be spidered also. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

kbking Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 URL? Since the shop isn't just yet ready for the public view I sent you a PM yesterday, but never heard from you again. But a friend from elsewhere, a professional osC coder, offered to take a look. From his computer he couldn't replicate the problem I'm experiencing. In other words everything worked as supposed to. Today I run a few pages through a free website speed checker (selfseo) which gave me these results: Domain name Size Load Time Average Speed per KB1 www.mysite/index.php 68.35 KB 1.38 seconds 0.02 seconds 2 www.mysite/contact_us.php 60.91 KB 1.28 seconds 0.02 seconds 3 www.selfseo.com/ 38.34 KB 1.72 seconds 0.04 seconds 4 www.mysite/empty.htm 0.21 KB 0.68 seconds 3.24 seconds What does the results say you guys? I think it looks good and also odd, since the empty.htm contains nothing. Still I don't understand why on the http pages the header becomes visible immidiately, but not the rest until 40 seconds. If I hit View Source at once, the whole page is present, every single line down to the last dot, but visible in my browser - no! Well that is, after 40 seconds it is! I have Chemos debug script and it shows that I have parse times between 0.190 to 0.300 seconds. Could it be my computer, modem, router? I run this command a few times: ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew but to no avail. I would appreciate some insight whether to look for a new computer or whatnot! TIA /kbking PS. I don't doubt the osCommerce application, it is rock solid, but it has to emanate from somewhere... DS.
crash3903 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Since the shop isn't just yet ready for the public view I sent you a PM yesterday, but never heard from you again.I did reply having sent your site through a speed checker and I had the same response - No delays But a friend from elsewhere, a professional osC coder, offered to take a look. Maybe you should have asked your "Professional OSC Coder" first :-" Regards Mark A Reynolds
kbking Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Sorry I didn't mean to offend you! The coder I referred to is, if I'm not mistaken, one of your friends too. And I know that you are a professional osC coder as well, Ive read quite a few threads here that you are involved in, so I know that you're very capable, that's why I also was glad that you responded in the first place! I thought that there should be a popup here indicating that there is a response, thought I've seen it before. I'll check my control panel again then! Best Regards! /kbking
