Ive got a feeling the sales aren't happening because of the homepage. At first I thought you just sold bears. In fact I was ready to close the page after 5 seconds because of the layour and design but I decided to read on. Really the page is just scattered and unprofessional. As I found the link to the store I saw its a stock template. I would look into changing that to something unique. In all, the site needs some work. Yes I am unprofessional and yes it is a standard Oscommerce page, I'm trying to establish a non professional look (on a meager budget), several of the Aussie Directories said my homepage was different and said their web search was easier because of it. I believe its only a matter of time that i sell something. (Ypu are not rude) I Don't know how to change the template (never thought i could do that).

digilee Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I think Luca was not necessarily referring to the length of the domain, just the actual words. I still struggle to decipher it! I run a jobs site with 23 letters in the domain +.com but it's very easy to read and is exactly what it says on the tin. SolarFrenzy Solar powered gadgets at down to earth prices. It is more important to see users thay easily remember your site as: solarfrenzy.com  or amazon.com or toysforboys.com ... An easy to remember url is an easy to share url with word of mouth between friends, colleagues, family members... You can put your keywords in the most important place: the title tag. Guest Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I was looking at your store and noticed that you do not have SSL installed, this might make people think twice about buying from your site. Tim
koalaphil Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 I was looking at your store and noticed that you do not have SSL installed, this might make people think twice about buying from your site. Tim  Thanks , I have wondered about this, but as i have Paypal as my only Payment method, it is a secured site when the customer gets to the payment gateway, so i really don't see why i should have SSL on site as well. any opinions would be well received! koalaphil

It is sensible data. I love oscommerce and OS software! I'm not a programmer, I'm only a learning boy and a translator :) I love full contribution packages!

Thanks, i have now started research on ssl's and think my own web host probably has best deal (similar to many on the web). will get it on after Easter.
Ausgirl Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Thanks ,I have wondered about this, but as i have Paypal as my only Payment method, it is a secured site when the customer gets to the payment gateway, so i really don't see why i should have SSL on site as well. any opinions would be well received! koalaphil This maybe true, and your average customer usually hasnt a clue where ssl is concerned but you still hold customer details on your site that should be protected. The title page either needs removing or changing. It looks cheap and as someone else stated, I also thought you sold bears. You have no information pages, privacy, terms & conditions, postage & payment or contact us????? There are no contact details, no email or address????? You should consider adding these details to the footer and on your contact us page (The one you dont have, but should have) If you are operating from home, use a post office box. (around $60-$75AUD a year) You should also install things like Header Tags Controller & Ultimate SEO URLs and maybe add some colour to your site, make it more appealing. I have to agree, your domain name is not the easiest thing to remember. Someone remembering your domain name is much more important than 5 words your name is made up of. It would be easier to remember Phils used goods or teds used goods. Best that people remember your name. Just a few things for you to consider.
Guest Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 No offence, but if you are serious about selling online, pay an experienced web developer to re-do your website, or learn more about HTML/PHP/MySQL and marketing. Even if you have little to no budget, you could still learn the above skills and teach yourself (this is what I have done many years ago) for free. You just need to be prepared to do so. As an "average Joe" visitor to your website, it tells me that you can't be bothered about your website or your business for that matter, which makes me not bothered about wanting to spend money with you, if you see what I mean. Again, please don't take offence, we all have to start somewhere, so hopefully we can all put you on the right track. :) Sam

I checked out the site this morning, nothing really has changed. And still no SSL :  I would just spend some money and get a pre made template from one of the template sites.. And you need to get that SSL cert.. Godaddy has one for $30.00 a year for encryption upto 256-bit Just my 2 cents........ Tim
