tomcoh Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 As some of you are probably realizing right now at Christmas time, people are buying more than one thing on your site and shipping more than one item to a multiple people. I see this first hand atleast 5 times a day with My Gift Basket Business. OSC is missing a gift checkout feature for people that are purchasing gifts for other people and sometimes for multiple people at the same time. I'll trade implementation or logo, site, and software design work if you really know OSC or PHP well. I'll provide mockups, clickthru models and some sort of funcional spec. I'd like the need for an account to be transparent to the user. something about having to login and sign up for an account scares people off when they are just trying to buy a gift for someone. The checkout process should be exactly how http://Amazon.com does multiple shipping addresses with gift cards within the constraints of OSC. Here are some sample sites of my work: http://bigredbow.net (osc) http://srh.com (osc) http://tomcoh.com/gd (web app) http://tomcoh.com/rpc (web app) http://tomcoh.com/rpc2 (web app) http://tomcoh.com/frontier (web app) http://cjrealty.careercast.com/texis/realSearch (web app) http://careercast.com (corp) http://tomcoh.com/novare (corp) http://grasshoppersake.com (boutique) http://tomcoh.com (art) http://www.jdbphoto.com (art) http://tomcoh.com/speed.nbci (portal) It would need to be designed for my current system (new checkout/early nov.) then spun into a contrib for everyone else. This is a requirement. Private Message or email if interested. Thanks, David Thomson tomcoh commerce
johnglobal Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Hi there I noticed a nice feature on a gift basket site recently. When you clicked on the product details you had the following options. 1. Add to cart 2. Select the recipent 3. Include a message with the gift The recipent list was available to you from your shipping address book.. If you did not have an account it allowed you to create a shipping address book anyway. You could then check out or continue shopping If you selected another gift you could choose to ship it to someone else. Don't rememeber what the site name was
johnglobal Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Also remembered seeing the following option when you create an account. 1. Setup and create reminders 2. Modify reminders etc etc This allowed you to setup birthdays etc and sends you an email reminder an email 14 days before the actual date.... You could specify email type e.g plain text, html Naturally you could send some product promotions to that person automatically instead of the usual... "This is your 14 day reminder, please visit our store and spend some money" John
johnglobal Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 I think this is the site http://www.mrsbeasleys.com/
rseigel Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 That is sweet! Would make a heck of an addition to osCommerce. Probably not terribly hard to code either (off the top of my head that is). Lindaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? :oha: Pretty please!!! (like you don't already have enough on your plate as it is) I might have a peek at this one myself if someone doesn't step up to the plate. Christmas is almost here and then maybe I'll have a life again. 8)
tomcoh Posted December 17, 2002 Author Posted December 17, 2002 PLEASE!!!! SOMEBODY HELP ME! I've lost 15 clients that bailed out today with multiple items in their cart. Also F- Paypal for credit card processing. I'm losing about 30% of my order to their processing. My merchant account can't be approved sooner. please someone!
blueline Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 David, WOW. I am a huge fan of your work. I have visited quite a few of the sites you listed, and I am very impressed. I wish I could help you, but unfortunately I do not know exactly how to code that. I really wish I could give you an answer. Just wanted to let you know that I am a fan, -Chris Chris Sullivan
pbreit Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 tomcoh, are customers actually informing you that they could/would not pay through PayPal or do you simply have open orders awating payment. If the latter, it's more likely just a normal abandoned cart which I'm sure most of us here are familiar with. Patrick Breitenbach
tomcoh Posted December 17, 2002 Author Posted December 17, 2002 Patrick, didn't mean to ruffle any feathers over at PayPal. People are email me that they don't understand the Shipping Process and that it is confusing them. OSC asks for it, then PayPal asks for it, except that it is set tot he Billing Person's address. I've had tons of complaints about this especially since my site sells gifts with different shipping addresses. I've tried to Modify my checkout process to blend into Paypal's process more completely, however, it seems that unless the user has used PayPal successfully in the past, they just don't get it as much as I try to explain it during the checkout process. PayPal works, just not the way I need it to for my processing. If you have any suggestions see... http://bigredbow.net Thanks, David Thomson
wizardsandwars Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 David, Have you IMplemented the IPN contribution? This will pass paypal, and pre-fill all of the shipping information into the PayPal text fields. This contribution is a *MUST HAVE* for anyone using PayPal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.
tomcoh Posted December 17, 2002 Author Posted December 17, 2002 yes. but it doesn't work for sending gifts to another address.
wizardsandwars Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 Hmm. I could be mistaken, but I amunder the assumption that in my shop, if a user selects a shipping address other than their accont address, and proceeds to paypal, paypal's shipping address is prefilled with the address that the customer selected that the order be shipped to in the store. Regardless, it wouldn't be hard to populate those files with the shipping address that the customer has provided in the store. If this is what you are looking for, Ill be happy to help. Let me know. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. pbreit Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 tomcoh, no worries, I'm just trying to find out how we can improve or modify the service so that it delights you and your customers. The feedback we get on this is normally vague and not actionable so any specific suggestions are very much appreciated. It's possible for OSCommerce to include a flag (no_shipping=1) which suppresses the shipping address request in the PayPal flow. Patrick Breitenbach
wizardsandwars Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 Patrick, Once again, you have come through with a GREAT tidbit of information! Is it possible that you can give us a list of ALL configurable variables that we can pass in the paypal string? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. tomcoh Posted December 18, 2002 Author Posted December 18, 2002 Ok. Patrick, thank you. I just fixed it so shipping is no longer shown, that should make it so people are no longer confused. I also added the image_url passthrough which should eleviate some of the problems with different branding. I take my previous statement back. Thanks for your help. Back to my initial question. Can someone help me with this checkout. I will trade whatever it takes in design work to get it done. Anyone?????
