streamline checkout

Is there a way to streamline the checkout process? Specifically, I would like to allow people to checkout more efficiently. Zen Cart allows people to create accounts a little more efficiently at checkout. Any examples would be greatly appreciated. I would rather not more to Zen Cart if possible.
