knifeman Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Hi, My site only has 2 pages indexed anymore. Both pages are simple html info pages. Googlebot still visits, but mostly tries to visit my out of stock products. I installed some modifications for 'product not found' and it seems these are all google will look at anymore. I do not think I have done anything wrong in terms of content. Would the 'product not found' mod cause a problem? Tim Visit My Website
web-project Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 you need to use the sitemap service by Google for index every page of your oscommerce. Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here! 8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues. Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.
knifeman Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Thanks Alex, I can install that, but is this a new requirement? I used to be indexed. Also I have other sites with no sitemap and they stay indexed. Tim you need to use the sitemap service by Google for index every page of your oscommerce. Edit: I looked at the sitemap contributions. There are several. Which one is best and which ones do not work?

Speeds Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Google won´t index all your pages at the same time! Just give it some time! :-"
Guest Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Try getting more quality links from sites with good PR's Tag your site with social bookmarks. Spend more time in related forums that allow links in signatures. Answer questions in Google groups and Yahoo answers, etc. The only thing I saw on your site was some of the product descriptions had " in them which breaks the code. It would not account for your entire site ranking so poorly. Maybe add index=follow meta tag.
knifeman Posted March 15, 2008 Author Posted March 15, 2008 Thanks Satish, I uploaded the 2 files and told google where they are. I even got verified. Google is really checking me out now, but it seems they are having problems. I already have over 100 unreachable urls including my homepage. All the pages are coming up: 500 (Internal server error) I don't understand, the site is working properly and I can click on any of the pages google says are bad, and my browser takes me right to them. Here is a small sampling of the google errors: http://myknifestore.net/ 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/1956-thunderbird-bill-p-557.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/1964-pontiac-bill-p-183.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/50000-casino-party-money-p-553.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/6003-loaf-p-452.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/aerosol-horn-p-83.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/apple-candle-4405-p-657.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/army-commemorative-bill-p-226.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/bagel-surprise-p-84.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/bang-match-book-p-535.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/bang-report-book-p-533.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/barney-fife-1041-p-596.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/barney-fife-p-490.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 http://myknifestore.net/batman-license-plate-31334-p-603.html 500 (Internal server error) Mar 13, 2008 google xml site map
Guest Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Try here http://www.botsvsbrowsers.com/SimulateUserAgent.asp You can see that it is giving a 500 error for your site so it is safe to assume that it is not your sitemap that is causing the problem. It also shows why Google is on indexing your site. However I have no idea how to fix it. You can try remove things from your .htaccess, robots.txt, spiders.txt, etc. and just keep testing. Also see if you can find another site on the same server as yours and test that site to see if it is the server. HTH
knifeman Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 Thank you so much Peter! After numerous hours of testing and sweating, I finally narrowed it down to my thumbnal contribution. I went back to the contribution section to see if there were any updates and the last one says to test before using because it doesn't play well with PHP 5. Actually it does just what I have experienced. Pages load fine, but the 500 error is reported to bots and they snub your site. I could not have fixed this without the link you posted. Thanks again, Tim
