thewitt
I've seen a few suggestions that are similar to this one, but nothing that exactly represents what I need. I add the same long lists of attributes to many of my products. For instance - one of my "groups of attributes" is the height of a child. I have this listed in 2 inch increments from 36 to 64 inches. I am using one of the attribute sorting contributions to get this list sorted, but I have to add it to about 80 products. It takes me about 30 minutes to add a new product and define all it's attributes. If I could define an "attribute group" and add this group to a product, this would make these lists of common attributes trivial to add. This "attribute group" would also be edited once, outside of any particular product, and that edit would apply to all products. In the example above, I want to extend the list of "child heights" to include 34 and 32 inch high children. If I have to go back and do this for 80 products, it's an all-afternoon exercise today. I often have 3-4 different lists of attributes added to a product. Some have 2-3 items, some have 20-30 items. Each list needs to be in a pre-sorted order, and each list is used by dozens, or even hundreds of products. I'm willing to take the position that these lists are NOT product specific - that they can be used across multiple products and are identical in each product - as I could easily create a variant of the list if I need one that's slightly different than another. I don't have any problem keeping them abstracted in that manner. -t
Ajeh
I submitted an attributes copier for when you have a product and copy it to a duplicate product you can now copy the attributes with it. This is of some help on these things but I am working on a better solution.
thewitt
Yes, the attribute copier looks like it will help, but it's only a minor improvement when you want to change a "group" of attributes - in my example, adding 32 and 33 inches to the "Height" group which is already installed in 80 different products. It's a good start though :), and I certainly do appreciate your work. -t
Ajeh
The next copier method I am working on is for existing products to obtain the attributes of other existing products. I have a very crude copier ... but I don't yet trust it. I will try to get one out after I have the Attributes Sorter v5.0 done and a version of it for working with Ian's Load4. Would of been done today if my DSL hadn't died to 39 up vs 384 up yesterday ... At least that is working again and now I can get back to work.
