Prefix within the admin panel

In the admin panel, under products attrivbutes, what is ment by 'Prefix'? the default value is a '+'

 

What is this for?

if left as the default '+' it will 'add' the amount in the option value field if this option is applied. You can change this for a '-' if there is an option that would make the product cheaper.

I am launching a clothing store, how would i set that i have e.g 3 in size M, 4 in Size L etc.... ?

 

i know i set the quantity in the add product section, but how would i add individual quantitity per size?

i could be wrong - but i think you will need a different product for every item that needs its own quantity. Maybe there's a contribution to solve this? - but I don't know of one.

I didn't use a contribution, as I couldn't find any to do what I wanted. I just played with the code until I got what I wanted.
