DaveSlats Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Dear All, When I am at the "Database Server" page of a new installation I get a 'database not found' error when I try to give a name to my new OsCommerce database. I thought this section would actuall instally the new database with some sample data or do I have to get this database from some where else? Best Regards, Dave Slater, Dublin, Ireland

DaveSlats Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 [Dear Mark, Thanks very much for replying. No, I haven't created the database. I was under the misapprehension that OsCommerce would do that on install. I installed OsCommerce about two years and I remember that is how it worked then. How do I create the database? Again, thanks for replying. Regards, Dave Slater, Dublin, Ireland
crash3903 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 How do I create the database? You need to create the database in your hosting control panel - make a note of the user name, database name and password for the install HTH Regards Mark A Reynolds
DaveSlats Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 Dear Mark, Do I just create a new empty database or do I have to to use a structure that I can download from somewhere? Thanks again, Dave
crash3903 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Dear Mark, Do I just create a new empty database or do I have to to use a structure that I can download from somewhere? Thanks again, Dave I should create a new database - the reason being is that the old database may have been changed to accommodate contributions. If it hasn't then you are able to install the new store and copy the old tables across - But be careful in case this breaks your store regards Regards Mark A Reynolds

Do I just create a blank MySQL database and let the install create an OsCommerce database or does it have to have a specified structure or content. It is a new shop, so I just want the basic 'vanilla' starting database. Thanks again, Dave Slater
crash3903 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Do I just create a blank MySQL database Yes and let the install create an OsCommerce database or does it have to have a specified structure or content. The install is not creating a database - It is creating the tables which is why you should create a new database and let the install do the rest regards Regards Mark A Reynolds
DaveSlats Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 YesThe install is not creating a database - It is creating the tables which is why you should create a new database and let the install do the rest regards Mark, that worked a treat. Dave S
