I downloaded ocCommerce v2.2 to my hard drive. Then I unzipped the folder using Winzip and tried to upload it to Yahoo Merchant server using FileZilla (FTP client). about 1000 files transferred successfully and 8 failed. I dont know anything about PHP or MySQL or how to set up this software. I thought it was very simple because the description says out-of-the-box installation with minimum effort.

I am fustrated now because I dont know what I am doing. I dont understand the directions in the documentation pdf or the quick install instructions provided in the Community Support section. Maybe ocCommerce is not set up for novices like myself.

Is there anyone out there who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area who can give me a hand?

Do you mean v2.2 RC2a?

No files should have failed to upload. Were they corrupt when you extracted them? Can you upload them individually?

Did you create the database before you tried to install?

Are you using yahoo as your server If you are using yahoo as your server you will have to find a different server they no longer support htaccess and cvsingnore files these files are in 7 different places in the oscommerce files. Thank Paul

Yes, v2.2 RC2a. I didnt get any error messages saying that any of the files were corrupt. I didnt try to upload individually because there was over 1000 files. I dont know how to create a database. I am new to this. How do I create a database? If someone would help me out step by step I would gladly be able to pay a small fee for your help.

Thanks Paul. I started out using GoDaddy.com as a host but changed to Yahoo because it is less expensive and also has the option to create a Yahoo Store. I started out creating a Yahoo Store with their software but it is very limited and comes out looking very generic. I started to have someone overseas build the site but they have been working on it for almost a month and all I have seen so far is the first page. They told me it takes time but it shouldnt take a month to create 1 page. Luckily I only gave them a $100 deposit.

I want to use osCommerce becuase the description of this program includes everything that I need, but I have no idea what I am doing and need someone to help me step by step.

I would be more than happy to help but my first advice would be is to think about using yahoo. There are ways to use yahoo as the server for oscommerce, just a little tougher. Since yahoo no longer supports some of the files in oscommerce. But it can be done. I am doing it now. Tell me what you are really wanting to do and i will see if i can help you. You need to decide if yahoo is going to be your server. If so the htaccess file and the cvsignore files are not supported. You need these files but this can be fixed. Let me know. Thanks Paul

Eddie, in all seriousness and without sounding like I'm pimping for work, in your shoes I would dump yahoo and get proper hosting and also pay someone else to design and build the store for you.

I deal with a lot of people that have gone a similar route to you, sometimes even wasting hundreds/ thousands of pounds before coming to me and getting a proper job done*.

If you are serious about your business, go the professional route.

* Not advertising myself in particular as there are plenty of other professionals on here that do superb work with OSC.
