♥John W Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 Hi All, I modified my shipping.php to have more info and now I?m getting this error on the website. Parse error: parse error in /hsphere/local/home/fx2112/driedflowersrus.com/catalog/includes/languages/english/shipping.php on line 1 I have an assistant that has helped me by doing most of the code and Html parts, but she is unavailable at this time. Even when I put the old version that had been working up and then even the original I?m still getting this message. Can anyone help with some advice? Also, does anyone freelance on this? I?m not sure if I?m getting over my head and my site is up and running. Thanks, John I'm not really a dog.
sw45859 Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 there are plenty of freelance people to work on contributions, most of the time they get paid for it, sometimes they dont. if you could post the source code for the shipping.php so we could have a better look at it or if you would like to have a freelancer work on it, pm me and i'll take a look.
♥John W Posted December 14, 2002 Author Posted December 14, 2002 Well, that's the weird part. I put back the working version that I had of shipping.php and then even the out of the box version and I still get that parse error. That is the only file I changed at the time. I have no problem paying someone a fair price for an answer as it might take me forever to find the answer. I'm at the stage where I'm just kind of dangerous. For me the biggest part is not having things stand in my way. However, I am trying to learn as much as I can, but it's like learning to swim 3 miles from shore. I guess one of the things I'm wondering about is could the shipping.php being changed affected another file? IF so, should I post another file along with it? John I'm not really a dog.
mattice Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 most of the time they get paid for it, sometimes they dont. I think that's the other way around. If not I am doing something wrong ;) "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"
sw45859 Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 nah, if you put the original shipping.php back and had the error then it is going to be in one of the includes at the top, possibly the application_top.php but that would cause errors on every page i would think.
♥John W Posted December 14, 2002 Author Posted December 14, 2002 could it have affected something in the english.php? That is the only page that is having issues. Here is the link so you can see everything that is wrong on the page. http://driedflowersrus.com/catalog/shipping.php I'm not really a dog.
♥John W Posted December 14, 2002 Author Posted December 14, 2002 Well, it's fixed. It seems like it was something in the text, but I don't know for sure. Thanks for the responses. John I'm not really a dog.
dreamscape Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 I am still getting it when looking at your shipping page... looks like its not finding the english shipping page either. The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing - Edmund Burke
♥John W Posted December 14, 2002 Author Posted December 14, 2002 I'm trying to put up the modified text and right now you are right. But I have a version that will work. I'm trying to figure out what it is that's causing it. My web assistant fixed it but just by putting up the working copy. But, I'm trying to see what I'm doing wrong so I can learn from the experience. I looked at your site and I will probably be building another computer in the next couple of month and so I may be able to buy some parts from you. I like my Asus motherboard and Athlon combination, so I will probably do another but I might try and put Linux on it. I'm not sure at this time. I must say that I find it very frustrating to not be able to figure out when I have a problem the cause. I like knowing cause and effect. To me building the computer is way easier than the software end of it. John I'm not really a dog.
sw45859 Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 you are VERY correct about that, a tech's worst nightmare is software, i'll build computers any day of the week, although i am becoming quite fond of php programming, now i just have to learn the rest, which i want to do but just get a little frustrated with the layout of the code sometimes.
sw45859 Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 oh and also sometimes in the text if there is a ' or " in it that will mess stuff up the proper syntax is ' or " ....................food for thought
♥John W Posted December 14, 2002 Author Posted December 14, 2002 I put the working copy back up and it's working. I don't know why that didn't work yesterday. I'm going to change a little at a time until I figure out where it goes bad. I'm not really a dog.
♥John W Posted December 14, 2002 Author Posted December 14, 2002 Yea, I found that somewhere and I did have " in it, but after it went bad and I would back the added text out it would still have a problem. That I do not understand. But, what if I want to have "R" show up. Do I write it like this "R" or "R" ? JOhn I'm not really a dog.
sw45859 Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 no, if you are using R as a return for the formatting just use <br> other than that shouldn't have to worry about that.
♥John W Posted December 14, 2002 Author Posted December 14, 2002 No, I didn't explain that too well. I meant it like Dried Flowers "R" Us. I want that phrase in the text. I'm not really a dog.
sw45859 Posted December 15, 2002 Posted December 15, 2002 nope, just spell it like it is and if it causes any problems put in front of each "
