Guest Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 It seems that they answer with 450 people behind them, as we pions ask a simple questions and wait for days to get a very simple answer. They come along with their Red Suitcases and make all others feel so low.. It is a very bad environment.... But what would you expect from a place that governs themselves....sooner or later...they think they are TOP, and we are BOTTOM... Sucks, but that is how I feel and I know that many of you do as well... I legitimately asked some questions, and they still ignored me, and went on. (Not one response). I suppose our own MENTORS have dropped the ball. They believe that with so many behind them, that we all actually need them. Hey guys, I went to Google, and them Dreamweaver...for my help. Just so you know, there are wonderfuld, and very helpful places out there. YOU NEVER HAVE TO SAY, THAT YOU ARE ASKING A STUPID QUESTION, AGAIN. The great sites won't let you. THEY WON"T LET YOU FEEL BAD, AS WE ALL STARTED SOMEWHARE...THEY JUST FORGOT THEIR ROOTS...SO SHAME ON THEM.

They come along with their Red Suitcases and make all others feel so low.. It is a very bad environment.... You seem to think the task of a forum moderator is to answer questions. You are wrong. See Wikipedia for an explanation of what a forum moderator does. But what would you expect from a place that governs themselves....sooner or later...they think they are TOP, and we are BOTTOM... That is complete bullshit. I legitimately asked some questions, and they still ignored me, and went on. (Not one response). I suppose our own MENTORS have dropped the ball. They believe that with so many behind them, that we all actually need them. See above. THEY JUST FORGOT THEIR ROOTS...SO SHAME ON THEM. See above. You seem to think that everybody who starts using osCommerce starts asking simple questions. This may come as a surprise but there are actually people who learn about PHP and MySQL before they start on a shop. That way they can make sense of the code, the knowledge base, and search for answers on the forums instead of expecting others to spoon feed them. And with the large number of people like you who don't have a clue about what they are messing with there is no way on earth the forum moderators would ever be able to answer all those questions anyway. And forum moderators are not experts in every aspect of osCommerce and web hosting if that is you what you are thinking. Nobody can know it all.
burt Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 The present bunch of Moderators seem to do their job well, as least I think so. The previous bunch were not so good. Answering questions is done by other forum members in their own spare time.

I think I have had about 10 helpful responses to questions that I have asked. A lot of my questions have gone unanswered, but that is the way it is.
digilee Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 You must admit that the forum search is pretty much useless. I always google for answers. Example: Very basic question - "How to change what's new here' Forum search reply - 'Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.' 'One or all of your search keywords were below 3 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please go back and increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords.' Google reply - 1st on the list: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/lofiversion/i...hp?t193374.html But on the subject of moderators, like any forum there are some members that bend over backwards to help out and some that are simply there to boost their own ego. Avec Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 One thing that absolutely needs to change is there needs to be a much better and more quickly accessible knowledge base for the multitude of similar questions ("How do I change 'what's new here'?). Then, people must be instructed on using search functions. The built in search needs to be scrapped. I search exclusively (and many times a day) using Google site search (site:www.oscommerce.com/forums search words or string) If users can get their answers easily using one of these tools, then the forum is questions and answers on new topics and problems. I am not saying never post questions, but good lord, people, do just a little work yourselves. I am tired of search through 15 pages of Google results and not finding what I am looking for so I post a question, only to have it driven quickly four pages down because 14 more people lost their Admin password
♥FWR Media Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I don't understand this at all. I've only rarely come across free support forums as good as osCommerce. What is there to gripe about? The forum mods do a great job. The only time I see posts ignored (and ignore them myself as a user I might add) is when they shout HELP MEEE! with no meaningful representation of the problem to be solved. The other being a question that has been asked and answered 1,000,000 times. That kind of language is extremely offensive to some of us. It has no place in an otherwise civilized setting. Especially when it comes from a "team member". You should be ashamed of your self. If you don't have the civil vocabulary to communicate your thoughts you don't belong in a "team member" position on this forum. You seem to think the task of a forum moderator is to answer questions. Jan Zonjee Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 One thing that absolutely needs to change is there needs to be a much better and more quickly accessible knowledge base for the multitude of similar questions ("How do I change 'what's new here'?). On that subject, there was a thread made by someone with commonly asked questions (I think in the Installation Support forum). I have searched for that (using Google :) ) more than once, but can't find it back. Does anyone got that thread bookmarked?
Brian-Bear Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Nancy you sure know how to make friends..................NOT. I have always found osc members very helpful if they know the answer, if they don't know you get no reply, what would you rather do, them feed you a load of bull and wreck your webstore. Fact the forum search sucks but just do a search on google prefixed with oscommerce plus your search term and 9 times out of ten BINGO

♥FWR Media Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 FWRMEDIA: Okay, you got your brownie points. Team Members should live and die by the same standars you and I must maintain. Team members should "live and die" based on the advancement of the osCommerce project and nothing else. There is no need "placate" users .. users have access to a totally free shop system that has been coded by ( errm .. I can't even imagine the man hours) a huge amount of man hours that would I'm sure equate to millions if approached in a commercial manner by a paid and limited number group of developers. If there was a significant fault in the methods/customer service/code then this software would not have the huge following that it evidently does. Just be grateful that you have it and leave the team to deliver what we are using for free. Or feel free to pay hundreds of thousands of pounds and complain until your heart is content. THEY WON"T LET YOU FEEL BAD, AS WE ALL STARTED SOMEWHARE...THEY JUST FORGOT THEIR ROOTS...SO SHAME ON THEM. Shame on you for believing that the world revolves around you and no one else. I have read through your posts since you came here 2 years and 1 month ago. There is a pattern. You post, wait an hour or so, then post again by starting another thread if your first post has not been answered. If you have participated in a thread and you have been helped, a "thank you" from you is rare. Did you honestly believe that responses are as quick as live chat, a freephone number, or that a mentor would suddenly shift into your house until you were ready to fly? You can bet others noticed this pattern from the beginning and that you are less than kind. I am astonished at the criticisms you have bestowed on others even in the midst of them helping someone work something out. Your problem then, as it is today, is simply this: You clearly demonstrate that you are not willing to suss out the answers to your questions and attempt solutions before you come here and query the masses as if they "owe" you. And when you are not "paid," you pout. Rather than ask if something can be done, try it first. If it fails, restore from your back up and try something else. When that fails, come here and post what you tried and ask why it failed. Then be respectful and wait. I don't come to this forum looking specifically for you (I just might now.). And I never came here expecting that a moderator/mentor was going to answer every query I had (or move in with me). If you have been so blessed in other venues, good for you. I know for fact that many come here wishing their hands could be held for life during this high learning curve. Most of them quickly realise that there are no "personal trainers" (mentors). If you are kind, patient, and show you are wiling to work, there is help and plenty of it. You lack an appreciation for all the work, effort and litres of pure caffeine it took (and still takes) to put together an open-source solution that could be shared & improved by others instead of sold to benefit a chosen few. Imagine if any one of these developers, least of all Harald Ponce de Leon, hopped online one day and said: "But what would you expect from a place that supports osCommerce for free....sooner or later...they think they are entitled, and we owe them... Let's just shut it down." The only one who lets you feel bad is you. If your emotional life depends on a screen with words and pictures, you need to get out where the sun does shine. Take a break from this forum, read, work on your store, fix your typos, your info pages that open in new windows -- please... just chill while expanding your horizons. Swap out your angry eyes for kinder ones, please stop posting derogatory comments about who won’t come to someone’s rescue, and know that drawing bees is easier with honey than with vinegar. jon It's all just ones and zeros....
photofxplus Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 but that is how I feel and I know that many of you do as well... No you do not know how many of us feel, only yourself. Having a rough time, we have all sat and scratched our head - join the club - then post the problem, ask for some help, its all free none of it is owed. It annoys me that anyone should stomp around after not having to pay one penny for something that took years to put together. Wanta play with php? Do something for yourself - Buy a book then figure it out like (and I believe I can say this about 'most of us') most of us have and will. Lloyd
web-project Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 You must admit that the forum search is pretty much useless. If the search on the forum is useless you can try google for your answer. Wanta play with php?Do something for yourself - Buy a book then figure it out like (and I believe I can say this about 'most of us') exactly, but most of people expect the answers on this forum with full of correct code for them. Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here! 8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues. Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.
photofxplus Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 but most of people expect the answers on this forum with full of correct code for them. OK, I would partially agree and I take it back about most people, I was really speaking of myself.. I know I've sat and scratched my head plenty of times - I'm doing it now but I do have a good book beside me. But I have found some only need a little direction and they will go with it. I've answered a couple today and received no reply then later got an answer - they had it, and not only did they have it, they posted the solution as well. So all is not in vain. And besides, helping others helps me. I've learned a lot just by getting involved in dealing with someone elses problem and hopefully eventually getting to the answer. Even today I looked at expanding subcategories on the main page - not that I want to do it in my store - but I stuck my head in it - and now I know. So for people like me who are still stumbling along - getting involved in this forum is a good thing. I get my time and effort back.. And besides, I think coding is cool! Lloyd
Guest Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 we have all sat and scratched our head I still still spend most of my time trying to figure things out. I am glad there are coders here that are much better than I will ever be and I am even happier they are always very helpful. I  this forum.
withlovenana Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 We are not in grade school. Quit complaining about something that you got for FREE! To our moderators and contributors.. clap clap clap clap clap clap (my standing ovation) :D I have learned so much just doing and redoing. This takes time and it is a work in progress just like OSC and all other computer software. Technology changes and so does programming. We will never be able to keep up. We will never be able to please all of the people all of the time, so lets get up off the ground, leave the playground and dust ourselves off and act like the PROFESSIONALS we are. B)
